Innova 5610 OBD2 Scanner Details

The Innova 5610 presents diagnostic results in a structured layout. Each trouble code is color-coded: red means a stored or permanent DTC, yellow means a pending DTC, and a green message confirms that no codes are stored. Code number "1" is always the priority code. It is the one tied to Freeze Frame data and the one that turned on the MIL. A three-level severity rating tells you whether to schedule service, repair soon or stop the vehicle immediately.

Display icons show the tool's status at a glance. They indicate whether the tool is powered through the DLC, linked to the vehicle, connected to a PC, or running low on batteries. Monitor icons show readiness: a solid green icon means the monitor has completed its testing, and a flashing red icon means it has not run yet. Separate icons show the MIL, ABS or SRS system source, stored Freeze Frame data, and the Bluetooth and Wi-Fi connection status.

The System/Actuator Tests let the tool send commands to vehicle components. On Chrysler vehicles you can set throttle blade position, run a cam/crank relearn or compression test, force EVAP leak monitors, and kill individual injectors. Ford tests include spark advance, gear command and fuel pump control. On GM vehicles you can control engine speed in 25 RPM steps and run throttle sweeps, cylinder power balance and crankshaft variation learn procedures.

Honda owners get O2, EGR, VTC, IACV and EVAP solenoid tests. Toyota and hybrid owners get functions such as Inspection Mode for dynamometer use, Cranking Request, PWM inverter shutoff, battery cooling fan control, D-4S injection control and multi-step EVAP system checks. The tool shows live parameters during each routine, such as APP and TPS voltages, MAP vacuum and purge duty cycle.

Several reference tools help with day-to-day diagnosis. Drive Cycle Procedures explain how to complete incomplete monitors before an emissions inspection. The DLC Locator shows where the diagnostic connector is and includes a picture. Vehicle Information retrieves the VIN, calibration IDs, CVNs, available modules and In-use Performance Tracking statistics. The Tool Library contains OBD1 and OBD2 code definitions, icon meanings, LED meanings and a hotkey legend.

The Service Check screen shows brake pad status, engine oil level, oil life remaining and transmission fluid temperature. For electric and hybrid vehicles, the Hybrid Battery Check shows the state of charge for each cell in the pack. The OBD Mode Tests menu retrieves O2 sensor and non-continuous monitor results, marks values as Low, High or OK, and can ask the vehicle to start an EVAP leak test.

The erase function also clears Freeze Frame and enhanced data, but it cannot remove permanent DTCs. After an erase, all monitors are reset to "not run." Through the RepairSolutions 2 app you can access verified fixes, repair instructions, video tutorials, technical service bulletins and safety recalls. In Tool Settings you can adjust screen brightness, turn the audible key tone on or off, and enable expanded Live Data descriptions.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

Can't find the answer you need? Here are some frequently asked questions about the Innova 5610 OBD2 Scanner, and we answer them below.

What batteries does the Innova 5610 use?
It uses three AA-size batteries. Alkaline batteries are recommended for longer life. Replace them when the low battery icon appears, or when all 3 LEDs light up and no data is shown on screen.

Why won't the scanner turn on when I plug it into my car?
There may be no power at the vehicle's DLC. Check the fuse panel and replace any burned-out fuses. If that doesn't fix it, use the vehicle's repair manual to find the PCM fuse or circuit and repair it.

How many trouble codes can the Innova 5610 store?
The tool can retrieve and store up to 32 codes. It keeps data from the three most recently tested vehicles. When you test a new vehicle, the oldest vehicle's data is overwritten.

What do the green, yellow and red LEDs mean?
Green means all systems are OK, all monitors have run and no codes are present. Yellow means there is a pending code, or some monitors have not finished their testing. Red means one or more DTCs are present and the Check Engine light is on.

Can the Innova 5610 erase permanent DTCs?
No. The ERASE function clears stored codes, Freeze Frame data and enhanced data, but permanent DTCs are not erased. The vehicle's computer clears them once it confirms the fault has been repaired.

Does the scanner read ABS, SRS and TPMS codes?
Yes. You can open ABS, SRS and TPMS codes from the System Menu on supported vehicles. You can also use the Network Test to scan all modules or only the ones you select. Coverage depends on the vehicle make.

What Wi-Fi networks are supported?
Only 2.4 GHz networks are supported. The RepairSolutions 2 app stores two Wi-Fi configurations. Connecting to Wi-Fi is optional, but vehicle data will not be saved unless Wi-Fi or Bluetooth is connected.

How much Live Data can the Innova 5610 record?
The tool records about 100 frames of Live Data, either automatically when a DTC sets or manually when you choose. Pressing POWER/LINK while in Live Data mode erases any recorded data.

Can I use the Innova 5610 on pre-1996 OBD1 vehicles?
Yes, if you buy the optional OBD1 Adaptor Kit and OBD1 firmware upgrade. The kit includes adaptors for Chrysler, Ford, GM, Honda and Toyota connectors.

Which vehicles support Steering Angle Sensor calibration and ABS bleeding?
SAS calibration works on BMW, Chrysler, Ford, GM, Hyundai, Nissan, Toyota, Volkswagen and Volvo vehicles. ABS Bleeding works on Chrysler, GM, Hyundai/Kia, Mazda and Toyota vehicles.

How does the battery and alternator test work?
The battery check requires at least 12.1 V and takes you through three start/stop cycles. The alternator check runs with the engine held at 2000 RPM. If alternator voltage is below 9 V, all three LEDs flash.

What languages does the Innova 5610 support?
The display can be set to English, French or Spanish, with Standard or Metric units. You choose these the first time you power on the tool, and you can change them later in Tool Settings.

What does the warranty cover?
The Innova 5610 has a limited one-year warranty against defects in materials and workmanship. If the unit fails, it is repaired or replaced when returned prepaid with proof of purchase. Allow 3 to 4 weeks for service.
