Dometic 3-Way RM2350 Fridge Details
The Dometic RM2350 is a 3-way absorption refrigerator built for caravans and recreational vehicles. It stores fresh food and frozen food, and it makes ice. It has no compressor. Ammonia condenses in the finned coil at the top rear, then flows by gravity through sloped evaporator tubing inside the freezer, where circulating hydrogen makes it evaporate and produce cold. Since it relies on gravity, the vehicle must be level whenever it is parked for several hours. Otherwise, ammonia pools in the tubing and cooling can stop. While driving, leveling matters less.
The control panel has five elements: the ON/OFF fuel selector (A), the thermostat knob (B), the flame failure safety valve button (C), the piezo igniter (D) and the flame indicator (E). To run it on gas, select GAS and set the thermostat to 4. Then hold button C while pressing the igniter several times. Keep holding C for 10 seconds after the flame lights, until the red indicator stays in the green field. After you change a gas bottle, you may need to light it several times to purge air from the line.
On gas, the "OFF" thermostat setting keeps the burner at its bypass rate, and "MAX" keeps a high flame burning continuously. On AC, the heating element switches off or stays on continuously. Turning the knob toward MAX makes the cabinet colder. Dometic recommends setting it so a dry frost stays on the cooling fins, and moving it closer to MAX in hot weather. On 12 V DC, the unit should only run while the engine is running. A relay must cut DC power when the ignition is switched off.
The coldest areas are under the cooling fins and at the bottom of the cabinet. The upper door shelves are the warmest. The frozen food compartment is not designed for deep-freezing. Precooled meat and fish keep about three times longer there than in the fresh food section. To make ice faster, put the tray directly on the freezer floor and set the thermostat to MAX a few hours before you need it. The wire shelves can be moved. Shelf locks release with a flat-bladed screwdriver.
To defrost, switch the fridge off and leave the drip tray under the evaporator. Defrost water normally drains to a rear receptacle and evaporates. When there is heavy frost, turn the tray around and put a bowl under the outlet. Never use knives, ice picks or hot air blowers, because they can puncture the ammonia system or warp parts. Clean the interior with a weak lukewarm soda solution. Clean the fins, gasket and shelves with warm water only.
You can reverse the door by moving the hinges, the travel catch and the latch retainer to the opposite side. A decorative panel slides into the door grooves under the top cover strip. A qualified technician should do the periodic maintenance. This includes brushing soot from the flue, cleaning the burner, soaking the jet in wood alcohol, checking for leaks with bubble solution and testing the gas safety shutoff. A clear blue flame over the burner slots means the burner is working properly. Uneven cooling or fume odors usually point to a clogged jet, poor venting or a misplaced burner.
