Dometic DM2672 Refrigerator Details

The Dometic DM2672 is a two-way absorption refrigerator for recreational vehicles. Its automatic energy selector chooses the best available power source. In AUTO mode, 120 VAC has priority. If shore power is lost, the control switches to LP gas, and it returns to AC once power is back. You can turn AUTO off to run on LP gas only. Absorption units take a while to cool, so the manual says to expect a long running time before you notice any cooling after the first start.

The DM2672 also has a limp mode. If the control cannot read the temperature sensor, it runs the cooling unit continuously, so your food stays cold. The refrigerator stays in this state until someone installs a new sensor and resets the system. This keeps the appliance working until a technician can repair it. If the burner fails to light, the CHECK lamp blinks and beeps. It keeps doing this until you restart the unit, even if AC power returns in the meantime.

To reignite the burner, turn the refrigerator OFF for five seconds and then back ON. If the unit has been unused for a while or the LP tanks were just refilled, air may be trapped in the gas lines. Repeat the OFF/ON cycle up to four times to purge it. If the burner still does not light, check that the tanks have gas and that all manual shutoff valves are open. If it still fails, call a service center.

Leveling matters for an absorption unit. The refrigerator must be level when the RV is parked for several hours, because running noticeably out of level can stop it cooling. It does not need to be level while you are driving. Cooling may be weaker in sub-zero weather, which the manual describes as normal. Before refueling, shut off all LP gas appliances so gasoline fumes cannot reach the burner flame.

For food storage, the coldest spots are under the cooling fins and at the bottom of the cabinet. The upper door shelves are the warmest. Cover your food, let hot items cool to room temperature first, and leave space for air to circulate. The freezer is not designed for deep- or quick-freezing. Let meat and fish chill in the refrigerator before moving them to the freezer. Put ice cube trays in direct contact with the freezer surface.

Shelves come out without tools other than a flat-bladed screwdriver: remove the shelf locks, slide the shelf left to release the plastic caps, then tilt it out. If your unit has an ice maker, it is controlled by a bale arm. Raise the arm about 1-1/2 hours before you travel so the water in the mold freezes and does not spill. To change cube size, turn the adjusting screw, no more than one revolution at a time.

For maintenance, defrost with the doors open and the drip tray in place. Do not use a hot-air blower. Clean the interior liner with a mild solution of baking soda and water. Use plain warm water on the evaporator fins, gasket and shelves. When storing the unit, use the door airing position card to keep the doors latched but slightly open. The controls draw a few milliamps even when the refrigerator is off, so keep the batteries on a charger or turn off the RV's main 12 VDC switch.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

Can't find the answer you need? Here are some frequently asked questions about the Dometic DM2672 Refrigerator, and we answer them below.

Can I adjust the temperature on the Dometic DM2672?
No. The DM2672 uses a factory-preset temperature setting. Only the DM2682, DM2683 and DM2882 have a temperature selector button.

What does a blinking and beeping CHECK lamp mean?
It means the LP gas burner did not light within about 45 seconds. Turn the refrigerator OFF for five seconds, then turn it back ON. The alert keeps going until you restart the unit, even if AC power becomes available.

Which energy source does AUTO mode prefer?
AUTO mode always uses 120 VAC first. If AC is not available, it switches to LP gas. When AC comes back, it switches back to AC.

Does the DM2672 run on 12 VDC?
No. The DM2672 is a two-way model that runs on AC or LP gas. It needs a continuous 12 VDC supply only to power the electronic controls, which keep working down to 9.6 VDC. DC cooling mode is only available on the three-way DM2683.

Can I use LP gas mode at high altitude?
Above 5,500 feet, LP gas operation may cool less well and the burner may go out. Dometic recommends running on electric power at those altitudes.

What fuses does the DM2672 use?
It has a 3 A resettable fuse for the control system and a 5 A fuse for the AC heater. Units with the optional vent fan also have a 3 A inline fuse on the fan wire. Never replace the resettable fuse with a standard fuse.

How large is the DM2672?
The DM2672 has a total refrigerated volume of 6 cubic feet.

What should I do if the refrigerator smells of ammonia?
Turn the refrigerator off at the control panel right away and do not open its doors. Open the RV's windows and doors and leave the vehicle. Close the manual LP gas valve and disconnect 120 VAC power at the rear of the unit. Then contact a Dometic service center, and do not use the refrigerator until it has been repaired.

Why is my refrigerator too cold?
Check the thermistor bracket. It should be clipped to the last evaporator fin on the right side and centered vertically on the fin. The thermistor bulb should sit centered in the bracket groove.

How long is the warranty?
The warranty is a limited two-year warranty for the original purchaser in the continental USA and Canada. To keep it valid, yearly preventative maintenance must be done at a Dometic Authorized Service Center, starting on the first anniversary of the purchase date.
