Dometic 10-Series Fridge Details

The Dometic 10-Series is a three-way absorption refrigerator that runs silently, because absorption cooling has no compressor. In automatic mode the electronics pick the cheapest connected energy source and switch over on their own. For example, if the mains voltage drops too low, the fridge runs on gas and goes back to AC as soon as the supply recovers. All operation goes through one control knob: hold it for 2 seconds to switch the fridge on and for 4 seconds to switch it off. The fridge restarts with the last settings you used.

The TFT main menu has three detail menus: cooling capacity, operating mode and settings. You turn the knob to scroll, press it to choose, and selected options are highlighted in blue. After 30 seconds the display dims to a level you set. Symbols show the active energy source, the fan, the frame heater, the battery packs and a CI bus connection. You can also turn acoustic signals on or off. Even with beeps off, the fridge still beeps when the door has been left open too long.

A safety feature called tank stop mode starts when the vehicle's ignition is switched off. It blocks gas operation for 15 minutes, which covers refuelling, and then returns to automatic mode. If refuelling takes longer, switch the fridge off or choose another mode. In stand-alone gas mode you always have to switch the fridge off manually before refuelling. Never run the fridge on gas at petrol stations, in parking garages, on ferries or while the vehicle is being towed or transported.

With the optional battery packs, the fridge can run on gas with no AC or DC connection. To save power in this mode, the interior light stays off and the display turns off 2 seconds after you last use it. The display then lights up briefly every 15 seconds to show that the fridge is still on. Error E14 means the batteries are low. Take the batteries out when the fridge is not in use, because they can leak.

The ice compartment has a frame heater that reduces condensation in hot, humid weather. It runs all the time in AC mode, in DC mode while the engine is running, and can be switched on manually in gas mode. Inside the fridge, the VG fresh base has a slider that controls humidity in the vegetable drawer: close it for vegetables and open it for fruit. One shelf can be tilted to hold wine bottles, but it must be empty while you are driving. All shelves lock in place so children cannot climb inside.

Faults show as a warning symbol plus a code. The beep lasts 2 minutes and repeats every 30 minutes until the problem is fixed. Codes starting with W (warnings) clear on their own once the cause is gone. Codes starting with E (errors) must be reset by holding the knob for 2 seconds. Error E50 means the gas locked out after three failed ignition attempts, usually because the cylinder is empty. For maintenance, the gas burner should be cleaned at least once a year. A qualified technician should inspect the gas system every two years, and the door has a ventilated winter position to prevent mould during storage.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

Can't find the answer you need? Here are some frequently asked questions about the Dometic 10-Series Fridge, and we answer them below.

How do I switch the Dometic 10-Series fridge on and off?
Press and hold the control knob for 2 seconds to switch it on. Hold it for 4 seconds to switch it off. A beep confirms that it has shut down, and the fridge restarts with the last settings you used.

Which energy source does automatic mode use first?
Automatic mode picks the cheapest connected source in this order: AC power, then DC power, then gas.

Why does the fridge refuse to run on gas after I turn off the ignition?
This is tank stop mode. It blocks gas operation for 15 minutes for safety while you refuel, then the fridge returns to automatic mode by itself.

How long can the fridge run without AC or DC power?
With the optional R10-BP battery packs and 12 AA batteries, it can run in stand-alone gas mode for about 2 to 3 days. Replace the batteries when error E14 appears.

When should I defrost the refrigerator?
Defrost it when the frost on the cooling fins is about 3 mm thick. Do not use mechanical tools or a hair dryer to remove the ice.

What does error E50 mean?
E50 means gas operation locked out after three failed ignition attempts. Usually the gas cylinder is empty. Replace the cylinder, then reset the error by holding the control knob for 2 seconds.

How should I use the winter covers?
In AC or DC mode, fit both winter covers. In gas or automatic mode, fit only the lower cover so that the fumes can escape properly.

How much weight can the door shelves hold?
Each door shelf can hold up to 6 kg, and the whole door can hold up to 7.5 kg. The VG fresh base can hold up to 5.5 kg.

Can I use natural gas with this refrigerator?
No. Use only propane or butane, at the pressure shown on the type plate.

How often should the gas burner be cleaned?
Clean it at least once a year. With liquefied petroleum gas, you may need to clean it every six months or every three months, depending on how dirty it gets. Poor ignition or small bangs on ignition are signs that the burner is dirty.

Why is the fan running?
The fan runs when the outside temperature is above 32 °C, when the set temperature has not been reached within 2 hours, or when the fan function is switched on. It is switched on by default.
