Dometic DM2662 Refrigerator Details

The Dometic DM2662 is a two-door absorption refrigerator for recreational vehicles and mobile homes. It is meant for storing fresh and frozen food and for making ice. It has no compressor. Instead, heat from either a 120 V AC heater or an LP gas burner drives a sealed ammonia, hydrogen and water circuit. Ammonia condenses in the finned coil at the top rear, then evaporates inside the freezer section, which produces the cooling.

The automatic energy selector chooses between AC and gas. In AUTO mode, AC has priority. If shore power is lost, the control switches to LP gas, and it switches back to AC as soon as AC returns. Users can also lock the unit in GAS mode. If ignition fails, the CHECK lamp lights. To reset it, press the ON/OFF button off and then on again. The lamp stays on even if AC power becomes available again, until it is reset this way.

The DM2662 has a user-adjustable thermostat that controls both gas and electric operation. You do not need to reset it when the energy source changes. For faster ice, you can set the thermostat to its coldest position for a while. Set it back to normal once the ice has formed, or the cabinet may get too cold.

A standard 12 V DC climate control heats the metal frame between the freezer and fresh food compartments. This stops water droplets from forming in hot, humid weather. The switch is under the top decoration panel. It draws 12 V DC continuously while it is on, so turn it off when no charging source is available.

The control system has two limp modes. If the display module fails, the unit keeps running automatically at the middle temperature setting. If the temperature sensor fails, the cooling unit runs continuously on the selected energy source until the sensor is replaced and the system is reset.

Leveling is essential. If the parked vehicle is not level, liquid ammonia can collect in the evaporator tubing and block circulation. A floor that feels comfortably level to live on is enough. While the vehicle is moving, leveling does not matter.

For installation, a wood strip must run across the upper opening of the enclosure. A sealing strip on the front frame keeps the combustion system separate from the living space. Any gap of more than 1-1/2 in above the refrigerator should be blocked so heat does not get trapped there. Do not install the unit directly on carpeting.

The door hinges can be reversed with dedicated kits (black right-left 2932750-11/6, black left-right 2932750-12/4). Optional decorative door insert panels slide into grooves in the door frame. They are held in place by a decoration strip, which is either screwed or snapped in.

For maintenance, the vents and rear coils should be cleaned once or twice a year. A qualified technician should check the flue baffle, the burner and the LP gas pressure every year. The Airing Position Card (3850781-01) holds the doors ajar during storage. To defrost, use the drip tray and hot-water trays, and never use sharp tools or hot air blowers.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

Can't find the answer you need? Here are some frequently asked questions about the Dometic DM2662 Refrigerator, and we answer them below.

Can the Dometic DM2662 run on 12 V DC cooling?
No. The DM2662 is a 2-way model that cools on 120 V AC or LP gas only. It still needs a continuous 12 V DC supply to run its electronic controls and automatic energy system. The 3-way version, which can cool on 12 V DC, is the DM2663.

What is the storage capacity of the DM2662?
The total refrigerated volume is 6 cubic feet, split between a frozen food compartment and a fresh food compartment.

What cutout size does the DM2662 require?
The recess must measure 53-3/4 in high x 23-11/16 in wide x 24 in deep (1365 x 602 x 610 mm).

Why does the CHECK lamp come on?
The CHECK lamp means the control failed to light the burner in gas operation. It makes three attempts of about 45 seconds each, two minutes apart. Make sure the LP tanks are not empty and the manual valves are open. Then press ON/OFF off and on again. If air is trapped in the lines, you may need to repeat this 3 to 4 times.

How long does it take to cool down the first time?
On the very first startup, the cooling unit may need up to four hours of running time before it is fully operational.

What LP gas pressure is required?
The correct operating pressure is 11 inches water column. Measure it at the pressure test port just ahead of the burner jet.

What is the climate control switch for?
It powers a 12 V DC heater that stops condensation on the frame between the freezer and fresh food doors in hot, humid weather. The switch is beneath the top decoration panel. Turn it off when no charging source is available.

Can I change the door swing direction?
Yes. You can move the hinges to the opposite side using Dometic door reversing kits 2932750-11/6 (right-left, black) or 2932750-12/4 (left-right, black).

What size decorative door panels fit the DM2662?
The upper panel should be 401–403 mm high x 524–527 mm wide. The lower panel should be 825–827 mm high x 524–527 mm wide. Maximum thickness is 5/32 in (4 mm).

Which fuses does the DM2662 use?
It has a 3 A fuse for the control system and a 5 A fuse for the AC heater, both located in the power module.

Why is my refrigerator not cooling well when parked?
The most common cause is that the vehicle is not level, which lets ammonia collect in the evaporator tubing. Also check for heavy frost, overpacking, a dirty burner or flue, a clogged jet, low gas pressure and blown fuses. If it stops cooling completely, turn it off right away and contact a Dometic dealer.

What does the warranty cover?
Dometic offers a limited three-year warranty on parts and freight and two years on labor for major components. To keep it valid, you must have yearly preventative maintenance done at an authorized Dometic service center.
