Dometic 9100 Power Awning Details
The Dometic 9100 Power Awning is a motorized patio awning that gives RV owners quick, push-button shade. It works on a hold-to-run principle: the awning moves only while the switch is pressed and stops as soon as it is released. If you extend it too far, retract it slightly until the valance sits in the correct position. This keeps the fabric taut and in the right shape to protect you from sun and light rain.
The fabric roller tube assembly (FRTA) sits lower than the RV's awning rail when fully extended, which gives the awning a built-in slope for water runoff. If you need a steeper slope, you can lower the FRTA. Loosen the knob on the bottom arm, pull the top arm down to the height you want, then tighten the knob again while holding the top arm in place. Repeat the same steps on the other side. Keep your hands away from the openings around the adjustable arm, because it extends and retracts.
For rainy conditions, the manual describes a shed water setup. First, check that the top arm nearest the entry door is fully extended and its knob is tight. Then lower the arm farthest from the door so that one side sits lower than the other. This slope adds to the slope from the awning rail and stops water from pooling. Never loosen the knobs in wind or when water or snow has already collected on the fabric.
When closing, the arm assemblies fold against the back channel, so stay clear of them. If power fails, first rule out the simple causes: the RV is unplugged, a fuse has blown, the house battery is low, or the ignition interlock is active. The LED strip runs on its own circuit. If the lights work but the motor doesn't, check the motor fuse first. Only then use the auxiliary power or pull strap methods. After either one, a qualified technician must service the awning.
The pull strap method requires care because the roller tube is under spring tension. One person holds the strap firmly while another removes the casting screws. As the awning rolls up, move the strap diagonally to keep the fabric from creasing, bulging or stretching for good. Reinstall the screws before driving, and do not reconnect the wiring. Before any trip, test the ignition interlock on motorhomes. If the awning still responds with the ignition on, disable it and have it repaired.
Care focuses on keeping the vinyl fabric clean and dry. Never store the awning wet, since moisture and dirt cause mildew, discoloration and odors. Do not use pressure washers, harsh chemicals, insecticides or silicone sprays near the labels. Rinse bleach off completely so it doesn't weaken the fabric. You can repair small pinholes with Vinyl Liquid Patch, which melts into the coating and blends with any color. Let the patch dry fully before you roll the awning up.
