Keychron Q6 Max Keyboard Details
The Keychron Q6 Max has a layered internal build meant to improve typing acoustics. Inside the aluminum case, the PCB and PC plate sit with a sound absorbing foam, an IXPE foam, a PET foam and a latex bottom pad. The bottom case also has its own acoustic foam and PET foam. Every package includes a keycap and switch puller, a screwdriver and a hex key, so you can take the keyboard apart and rebuild it without buying extra tools.
Setup starts with the system toggle in the top left corner. It must match your computer's operating system. Windows users should find the replacement keycaps in the box and swap them in, following the quick start guide. In Windows/Android mode, the modifier keys next to the space bar work as Windows and Alt. A separate mode toggle selects 2.4 GHz, Cable or Bluetooth.
For 2.4 GHz use, Keychron recommends plugging the receiver into the included extension adapter and placing it on your desk near the keyboard. This lowers latency and reduces signal interference. Pressing fn + 4 starts forced pairing, and the keyboard should stay within 20 cm of the receiver while pairing. For Bluetooth, hold fn + 1 for 4 seconds. The indicator flashes for up to 3 minutes while it waits to pair and turns off once pairing succeeds.
A short press of fn + 1, fn + 2 or fn + 3 switches between paired Bluetooth hosts. When you move the toggle back to Bluetooth, the indicator flashes for 4 seconds and the keyboard reconnects to the last paired device. If the indicator is off, pressing any key starts the connection again. To turn the keyboard off, set it to Cable mode and unplug the cable. In wired mode, the keyboard never enters battery saver mode.
You can control the backlight without software. fn + Tab or pressing the knob with fn turns it on or off. fn + Q and fn + A cycle through lighting effects. fn + W and fn + S raise and lower brightness, and fn + T and fn + G change effect speed. The key description list also includes hue, saturation, battery check and N-key rollover functions.
Status LEDs show what the keyboard is doing. The battery indicator stays red while charging, turns green when fully charged and blinks slowly when power is low. The Bluetooth/2.4 GHz indicator blinks fast when reconnecting, blinks slowly when pairing and goes off once paired. The Caps Lock indicator lights solid white when Caps Lock is on. The keyboard can charge in any of its three modes.
If the keyboard stops working properly, you can reflash the firmware. Download the right firmware and QMK Toolbox, switch to Cable mode and remove the space bar keycap to reach the reset button on the PCB. Hold the button while plugging in the cable, release it after 2 seconds to enter DFU mode, then flash. Afterwards, hold fn + J + Z for 4 seconds to factory reset. On Windows, wait at least 20 minutes after Bluetooth pairing before restarting, because driver updates may still be running.
The warranty reflects the modular design. During the warranty period, Keychron replaces only the defective parts, not the whole keyboard. For safety, keep small parts away from children, keep the keyboard dry to prevent corrosion, and avoid placing it on metal surfaces, which can interfere with the wireless signal.
