Ideal Logic Heat H30 Boiler Details

The Ideal Logic Heat H30 is the largest model in the Logic Heat2 H range. It is a heat-only boiler, so it provides central heating and supplies domestic hot water through a separate cylinder. It has no integral pump and relies on an external system pump, fitted on the flow side. It works on fully pumped open vented or sealed systems but cannot be used on gravity circulation systems. Pipework leaves the top of the boiler, and an optional stand-off kit lets system pipework run downwards.

The user controls are simple: a temperature knob, a Mode button, a Restart button and a high-resolution status display with a burner indicator. The display shows the operating state with codes such as FP for frost protection, L codes for lockouts and F codes for faults. Built-in frost protection runs in every mode as long as the boiler stays powered. It fires when the water temperature drops below 5°C and runs until it reaches 19°C. For this reason, the boiler must be wired with a permanent live supply.

A feature called Intelligent Load Optimisation reduces on/off cycling. If the flow temperature reaches the CH target plus 4°C, the boiler shuts off. When it relights, it ramps down to minimum rate over 60 seconds and holds there for 10 minutes. Normal operation resumes after those 10 minutes, or after the CH demand has been off for more than an hour. This is useful when the system load is smaller than the boiler's minimum output.

The boiler works with a wide range of controls, including Ideal's Halo range, OpenTherm room thermostats, weather compensation through an outside sensor, and the Link remote monitoring solution. Without an outside sensor, you can select 2x Switched Live operation from the menu. In this mode, sL1 handles CH/DHW demand and sL2 handles DHW demand. Y Plan and S Plan wiring diagrams are included for both single and dual switched live setups.

Systems where the flow and return pipes turn horizontal close to the top of the boiler are prone to overheat lockouts. For these systems, Ideal recommends the optional pump overrun kit (221792), which keeps water circulating for 4 minutes after the burner stops. The boiler also has a fan overrun cycle, which should not be interrupted by cutting the electricity supply.

For servicing, there is an installer mode, opened by holding Mode and Restart for more than 5 seconds. It shows the last three faults and can run the burner at maximum or minimum rate for 10 minutes for combustion checks. A single combined spark and detection electrode, a low component count, a Honeywell gas valve and QR codes linked to how-to videos make maintenance easier. The 1:1 gas valve lets the boiler deliver full output at inlet pressures as low as 14 mbar.

The condensate system uses a siphonic trap that reduces the risk of freezing. The manual still explains how to safely thaw a frozen pipe with warm water or heat packs. Because the heat exchanger is aluminium, only approved inhibitors should be used, such as Fernox, Sentinel X100 and ADEY MC1. Artificially softened water is not permitted for filling. Flue options include telescopic, vertical, balcony, soffit and a compact rear flue outlet kit (55/80).

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

Can't find the answer you need? Here are some frequently asked questions about the Ideal Logic Heat H30 Boiler, and we answer them below.

Can the Ideal Logic Heat H30 provide hot water directly to taps?
No. It is a heat-only boiler. It supplies domestic hot water only through a separate hot water cylinder, whose thermostat sets the water temperature at the tap.

Does the Logic Heat H30 have a built-in pump?
No. Logic Heat2 boilers have no integral pump and need an external system pump fitted on the flow side. An optional pump overrun kit (221792) is recommended on systems at risk of overheat lockouts.

What is the maximum flue length for the H30?
The maximum effective horizontal flue length for the 30 kW model is 8.0 metres, and the maximum vertical flue length is 7.5 metres. Each 90° elbow counts as 1.0 m and each 45° elbow as 0.6 m.

What does the L 02 code mean?
L 02 is an ignition lockout, shown after five failed ignition attempts. Check the condensate pipe for blockages and make sure the gas supply is on, then press Restart. If it happens again, contact Ideal or a Gas Safe Registered Engineer.

What system pressure should the boiler run at?
The system pressure gauge should read between 1 and 1.5 bar. Pre-pressurised systems are usually set to 1.0 bar when cold, and the pressure should not go above 2.5 bar when hot.

Can the H30 run on LPG?
Yes. An LPG conversion kit is available for the 30 kW model. The conversion must follow the guidance supplied with the kit and be carried out by a qualified engineer.

How does the frost protection work?
If the boiler water drops below 5°C, the boiler fires and runs until the water reaches 19°C. This works in all modes, but only when the power supply stays on. It does not protect the rest of the system, which may need a separate frost thermostat.

What should I do if the condensate pipe freezes?
Find the frozen section, usually at the most exposed point outside, and warm it with a hot water bottle, a heat pack or warm (not boiling) water. Then restart the boiler. Do not try to thaw pipework above ground level.

How often should the boiler be serviced?
At least once a year, by a Gas Safe Registered Engineer. After each service, the Benchmark Service Record must be completed to keep the warranty valid.

What clearances does the H30 need?
For servicing, allow 165 mm above, 100 mm below, 2.5 mm at the sides and 450 mm at the front. After installation, the bottom clearance can be reduced, as long as a removable panel gives back the 100 mm needed for servicing.

What does code L 0C mean?
L 0C means the boiler has been reset five times within 15 minutes. Turn the electrical supply off and on again. If the boiler still does not work, contact Ideal or a Gas Safe Registered Engineer.

How do I register the warranty?
Register the boiler with Ideal after installation. The specification sheet offers a 2-year parts and labour warranty when you register within 30 days, and the Benchmark Commissioning Checklist must also be completed.
