Ideal Logic Max Combi C24 Boiler Details
The Ideal Logic Max Combi C24 is part of the Logic Max Combi2 range. It provides central heating and instantaneous domestic hot water from one compact wall-hung unit. It arrives fully assembled with a DHW plate heat exchanger, diverter valve, circulating pump, pressure gauge, PRV and expansion vessel. The box also includes an Ideal System Filter, which must be installed correctly to keep the warranty valid. The hardware pack is fully labelled and includes preformed copper tails, a built-in filling loop, a PRV discharge pipe and a pre-wired mains lead.
Users control the boiler through a large colour screen, two temperature knobs, a Mode button and hot keys. The Mode button switches between Off, Summer (hot water only) and Winter (heating and hot water). The display can scroll through up to three status messages. The leaf symbol on the heating knob marks the economy setting, where the boiler condenses most efficiently. According to the manual, turning the room thermostat down by 1 °C can cut gas use by up to 10%.
The DHW preheat function has three settings: Off (factory default), On and Timed. When it is active, preheating starts once the flow temperature drops 15 °C below the DHW target. It stops at 5 °C below the target or after 3 minutes, and it runs at most once every 30 minutes. The Timed mode learns how the household uses hot water over 7 days. It then preheats only during the periods when hot water was used the previous week, which gives quicker hot water with less gas.
Intelligent Load Optimisation reduces short cycling. If the flow temperature goes 4 °C above the heating target, the burner switches off. When it relights, it ramps down to minimum rate over 60 seconds and stays there for 10 minutes. Normal operation returns after those 10 minutes, or once heating demand has been off for more than an hour. The boiler also has a fan overrun cycle, a pump overrun, and a daily pump and diverter valve exercise that prevents seizing.
Frost protection works in every mode as long as the mains power stays on. It fires the boiler when the water temperature falls below 5 °C. A siphonic 75 mm condensate trap lowers the risk of the condensate freezing. If the condensate pipe does freeze, the boiler gurgles and then shows "Ignition Lockout". The manual explains how to thaw the pipe safely with warm water or heat packs. It warns never to use boiling water and never to thaw pipework above ground level.
The boiler works with Ideal's Halo controls without any hardwiring. Pairing it with a Halo Combi Wi-Fi thermostat raises the ErP rating from A to A+ through load and weather compensation, geolocation and Met Office forecast data. Other supported options are the wired OpenTherm Halo Lite, the 2-Zone extension kit and outdoor sensor 216119. The older PRT3 RF thermostat is not compatible. The boiler is also compatible with solar thermal and hybrid systems.
For servicing and diagnostics, the menu gives access to Fault Help, Fault History, Sensor Readings and a Vent System routine. A "Service Due" reminder appears after the boiler has been installed for one year. There are clear on-screen messages for faults such as low water pressure, blocked flue or condensate, and pump dry run. All servicing is done from the front of the boiler, which uses a Honeywell gas valve and a single spark and detection electrode.
