Ideal Logic Combi C24 Boiler Details

The Ideal Logic Combi C24 supplies both central heating and instantaneous domestic hot water from one compact wall-hung unit. It comes fully assembled with a plate heat exchanger, diverter valve, circulating pump, pressure gauge, PRV and expansion vessel. Ignition is fully sequenced and automatic, and combustion is fan-assisted. A single spark and detection electrode, a Honeywell gas valve and a deliberately low component count help keep the boiler reliable. The mild steel casing is painted white and has a white polymer front panel.

The boiler has a timed intelligent preheat function, which is switched off at the factory to save gas. Once switched on in Installer Mode, the display shows "Timed". The boiler then learns your hot water usage over 24 hours and fires briefly to keep the plate heat exchanger warm just before you usually need hot water. For example, if you shower at 6am on Monday, the water will be preheated for 6am on Tuesday. You get hot water faster while using as little extra gas as possible.

Intelligent Load Optimisation cuts down on the boiler switching on and off. If the flow temperature reaches the CH target plus 4°C, the burner stops. When it relights, it drops to minimum rate over 60 seconds and stays there for 10 minutes. Built-in frost protection starts when the water inside the boiler falls below 5°C and runs until it reaches 19°C, provided the power stays on. The pump and diverter valve also run briefly once every 24 hours as a self-check to stop them seizing.

The controls are simple: a mode button, a restart button, and separate knobs for hot water and heating temperature. A high-resolution display with clear icons shows the flame status, the operating mode and diagnostic codes. F codes mean a fault and L codes mean a lockout. For example, F01 is low water pressure, L02 is ignition lockout and F0U is a flow/return difference above 50°C. Setting the heating to 72°C or lower helps the boiler condense and run more efficiently.

You can connect 230 V room thermostats and timers, OpenTherm controls, the Ideal Halo range, weather compensation sensors and a frost thermostat. The wiring centre accepts different cable sizes, including 5-core cable. The boiler also works with solar thermal systems, hybrid systems, waste water heat recovery and the Ideal System Filter. Installer Mode opens by holding Mode and Restart together for 5 seconds. It shows the last three faults and gives access to preheat, maximum and minimum rate tests, a 5-minute venting cycle and pump speed settings.

A siphonic 75 mm condensate trap lowers the risk of freezing. If the condensate pipe does block, you will hear gurgling before the boiler locks out with code L02. The green filling loop handle makes it easy to top up system pressure yourself, and QR codes in the manual link to how-to videos. There are many flue options, including telescopic, vertical, balcony, soffit, high-level and high-rise aluminium flues. The boiler can be fitted on a combustible wall, and inside a cupboard with just 5 mm clearance at the front and bottom.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

Can't find the answer you need? Here are some frequently asked questions about the Ideal Logic Combi C24 Boiler, and we answer them below.

What water pressure should the Ideal Logic Combi C24 system have?
When filled, the pressure gauge should read between 1 and 1.5 bar. The boiler will not run if pressure falls below 0.3 bar. When the system is hot, pressure should never go above 2.5 bar.

How do I top up the system pressure?
Connect the filling loop to the DHW inlet. Turn the blue DHW inlet handle to horizontal, then slowly turn the green filling loop handle to horizontal until the gauge reads 1 to 1.5 bar. Close both handles again, disconnect the loop and refit the cap and plug.

What does fault code L02 mean?
L02 is an ignition lockout. Check that the condensate pipe is not blocked or frozen, and make sure gas is reaching the property. Then press the restart button. If the fault comes back, contact Ideal or a Gas Safe Registered Engineer.

How do I thaw a frozen condensate pipe?
Find the frozen section, usually the most exposed part outside. Warm it with a hot water bottle, a microwavable heat pack, a warm damp cloth or warm water, but never boiling water. Once the condensate flows freely, restart the boiler.

What is the hot water flow rate of the C24?
The C24 gives about 9.9 litres per minute at a 35°C temperature rise, and its specific rate is 11.5 l/min. It keeps working at flow rates as low as 2 l/min.

What does the Preheat function do?
The timed preheat learns when you used hot water the previous day and keeps the plate heat exchanger warm in time for the same periods. This gives you hot water faster. It is off by default and is switched on in Installer Mode.

Does the boiler have frost protection?
Yes. Built-in frost protection works in every mode as long as the power is on. It starts when the boiler water drops below 5°C. It only protects the boiler itself, so the rest of the system may need a frost thermostat.

What does L0C on the display mean?
L0C appears when the boiler has been reset 5 times within 15 minutes. Turn the electrical supply to the boiler off and back on. If the boiler still does not work, contact Ideal or a Gas Safe Registered Engineer.

How often does the Logic Combi C24 need servicing?
A Gas Safe Registered Engineer should service it at least once a year. Regular servicing is also a condition of the warranty, and the Benchmark service record must be filled in after each service.

Can the C24 be fitted inside a kitchen cupboard?
Yes. It measures 700 x 395 x 278 mm and needs only 5 mm clearance at the front when built in. However, there must be 450 mm of front clearance with the door open, and a removable panel giving 100 mm below, so the boiler can be serviced.

Can the boiler run on LPG?
The C24 is supplied for Natural Gas (G20). An LPG conversion kit is available, and a qualified engineer must fit it following the instructions that come with the kit.

What is the maximum flue length for the C24?
The maximum horizontal concentric flue length is 9 m and the maximum vertical length is 7.5 m. Subtract 1 m for each 90° elbow and 0.6 m for each 45° elbow.
