Drayton LP111 Thermostat Details
Although it is often called a thermostat, the Drayton LP111 is a timeswitch from the Lifestyle range. It switches one circuit, either heating or hot water, on and off at times you choose. Drayton suggests it where simple time control is enough, especially with combination boilers or extra zones. Its large buttons and simple layout have made it popular with elderly users. Remember that the room thermostat still has the final say. If the thermostat has switched off, the heating will not run, even during an ON period.
The factory program gives two active periods, morning and evening. The middle period is inactive because ON2 and OFF2 are both set to 12.00pm. To use it, set two different times. To change the program, press SET? until SET PROG? appears, then press YES. Adjust each time with – and +, and press SET? to move to the next one. You can also press SET? to leave a time unchanged. After OFF3, one more press of SET? returns the unit to normal operation.
Times must be entered in order: ON1, OFF1, ON2, OFF2, ON3, OFF3. If they get out of order, the display flashes a warning. ON1 cannot be the last time before midnight. OFF3 can fall after midnight, as long as it is no more than 23 hours 59 minutes after ON1. To clear your changes and go back to the factory program, press SET and + together.
The Advance/Boost button on the front gives temporary control without changing the program. Pressing Advance shows ADV and moves the output to the next state. If the system is off, it turns on until the end of the next period. If it is on, it turns off until the next ON time. Pressing and holding Boost shows BST and adds one hour. Press it again for two or three hours. Press it once more to cancel.
The SELECT button under the flap chooses one of four modes. OFF keeps the system off and ON keeps it on. TIMED follows the three daily periods. ONCE runs one long period from ON1 to OFF3. Changing the mode never deletes your saved times, so you can return to them at any time by selecting TIMED.
Holiday mode is useful when the house will be empty. Press SET? three times to reach SET H'DAY?, press YES, then set the number of days with + and –. The unit counts each pass through midnight as one day. For example, if you leave on Saturday morning and want heating again on Tuesday morning, set three days. The display shows H'DAY until normal operation resumes.
The clock is set at the factory, but you can set it yourself through SET CLOCK?. Set the hour (check AM or PM), then the minutes. Under SET DATE?, set the year, month and day. The day of the week is worked out from the date, so if the weekday shows wrong, correct the date. The last step turns automatic Daylight Saving (DLS) on or off.
When replacing an old timeswitch, the LP111 can usually be plugged into the existing wall-plate, after checking the terminal comparison chart. Because the contacts are volt-free, Terminal 1 must be supplied, either by a link from L or by a separate supply with a 3A fuse. Always switch off the mains before removing the unit, and never fit it to a live wall-plate. The LP111Si version adds a boiler service reminder. Thirty days before the service is due, it flashes the display and sounds an alarm. If the service is still not done, it lowers heating comfort until a separate reset unit is used.
