Drayton Digistat 1RF Thermostat Details

The Drayton Digistat+1RF is a battery-powered wireless room thermostat. It sends its commands by radio to the SCR receiver, which is wired to the boiler or the central heating wiring centre. Because the thermostat itself needs no cables, there are no floorboards to lift, no plaster to chase out and no surface wiring. It can be placed anywhere within radio range instead of only where a cable can reach. Drayton also offers it as a clip-in control for Worcester Bosch boilers.

The display shows a sun icon in comfort (On) mode, a moon icon in setback (Off) mode and a flame icon when the thermostat is calling for heat. The Off button sets a reduced setback temperature, for example 15°C, and the On button returns to a comfort temperature, for example 22°C. This makes it quick to save energy when you go out shopping or for an evening. While you adjust a value, the setpoint is shown and then disappears after 5 seconds.

A user menu lets you change four values: maximum temperature (Hi), minimum temperature (Lo), the Off temperature and the On temperature. Press the On button to step through them and use + or - to change each one. If you reach a limit, the display flashes. To leave the menu, hold On and Off together for more than 5 seconds, or wait 1 minute. Setting the minimum and maximum to the same value makes the thermostat tamper-proof. You can also set a minimum temperature to protect vulnerable occupants.

An installer menu, shown as "Inst", covers Application Type (gas boiler, oil boiler or electric heat) and System Capability. Choose Fast if the house usually reaches the setpoint in under 1 hour, or Slow if it takes longer. To save a change, press On before you exit. To leave the installer menu, hold Off and + for more than 5 seconds, or wait 1 minute. The thermostat also has on/off load compensation for steadier temperature control.

Commissioning pairs the thermostat with its receiver. Put the SCR into learn mode by holding buttons 1 and 2 (Override) together. Hold the thermostat in sight of the SCR, at least one metre away, and fit the batteries. The red LED flashes for 7 seconds to confirm the link. Raise the setpoint until the flame appears and check that the boiler runs, then lower it again. In multi-zone homes, pair each thermostat and SCR one pair at a time.

A built-in signal strength test helps you choose where to mount the thermostat. Hold + while refitting the batteries and the display shows "rF" while the unit sends signals continuously. If the red LED on the SCR flashes continuously, the signal is good. Mount the thermostat on an inside wall about 1.5 m above the floor, away from direct sunlight, draughts, radiators, televisions and lamps. Mount the SCR at least 30 cm from metal objects and from the side panel of the boiler.

During normal use, the red LED on the SCR flashes for 7 seconds about every 5 minutes to confirm that a signal has been received. The green LED shows a call for heat. If the red LED stays on, no signal is getting through, often because the batteries are flat. The Override button lets you run the heating manually in that situation. A flashing battery icon warns that the batteries are low. When the battery icon is shown on its own, the batteries are exhausted and the thermostat has stopped working.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

Can't find the answer you need? Here are some frequently asked questions about the Drayton Digistat 1RF Thermostat, and we answer them below.

What batteries does the Drayton Digistat+1RF use?
It uses 2 x 1.5V IEC LR6 (AA) alkaline batteries, which typically last about 2 years. To change them, remove the battery cover with a coin.

What is the wireless range between the thermostat and the SCR receiver?
The typical range is 30 metres. The range can be shorter depending on the composition, density and number of walls between the thermostat and the SCR.

How do I pair the thermostat with the SCR receiver?
Hold buttons 1 and 2 (Override) on the SCR together to enter learn mode. Then fit the batteries in the thermostat while holding it in sight of the SCR, at least one metre away. The red LED flashes for 7 seconds to confirm pairing.

How can I check the signal strength before mounting the thermostat?
Remove the batteries, then hold the + button while refitting them. The display shows "rF". If the red LED on the SCR flashes continuously, the signal is good. Remove the batteries to end the test.

What does the red LED on the SCR mean?
A 7-second flash about every 5 minutes means a signal has been received. If the red LED stays on, no signal is getting through, possibly because the batteries are flat or there is radio interference.

How do I make the thermostat tamper-proof?
In the user menu, set the minimum and maximum temperatures to the same value. The setpoint then cannot be changed.

What are the On and Off buttons used for?
The On button selects the comfort temperature, for example 22°C. The Off button selects a lower setback temperature, for example 15°C, to save energy while you are out.

What temperature range can be set?
You can set the temperature from 5°C to 30°C in steps of 0.5°C. Control accuracy is ±0.5K at 20°C.

What does the System Capability setting do?
It tells the thermostat how quickly your heating responds. Choose Fast if the house usually reaches the setpoint in under 1 hour, or Slow if it takes longer.

Does the SCR receiver need an earth connection?
No. The product is double insulated. The SCR must still be fed from a 3A fused supply with a double pole isolating switch.

Can I still run the heating if the radio signal is lost?
Yes. Press the Override button on the SCR to run the heating manually. The red LED stays on until a good signal is received again.

Where should the thermostat be installed?
Mount it on an inside wall about 1.5 m above the floor. Keep it away from direct sunlight, draughts, radiators and other appliances that give off heat.
