Dyson DC24 Vacuum Cleaner Details

The Dyson DC24 is a compact upright vacuum that ships in a few pieces. To assemble it, lay the machine flat and push the cleaner head on until it clicks. Then stand the vacuum up, insert the wand into the hose and push it home until it clicks. The supplied tool clips onto the side of the machine, so it is always within reach.

To start cleaning, press the foot pedal and recline the handle. The stabiliser stand lifts up on its own. The power button sits at the front of the handle. When you finish, push the machine back to upright and the stabiliser wheels drop automatically. Dyson warns users to check that the wheels are fully engaged before letting go, and never to press the cyclone release button while carrying the unit by its carrying handle, because the machine could fall and cause injury.

The brushbar always starts in the ON position each time the machine is switched on and reclined. Some carpets fuzz under a rotating brushbar. In that case Dyson recommends hard floor mode and checking with the flooring manufacturer. Fine dust such as plaster or flour should only be picked up in very small amounts. If you use the vacuum in a garage, wipe the soleplate and wheels with a dry cloth afterwards so trapped sand or pebbles do not scratch delicate floors.

For high-reach cleaning, press the wand release button and lift. Rotate the wand, open the wand cap and clip the handle into the hose. Tools fit on either the hose or the wand. Dyson notes that the strong suction can make the hose pull back. On stairs, never work with the vacuum positioned above you.

Switch the machine off before emptying the clear bin, and empty it as soon as dirt reaches the MAX mark. Press the button at the rear of the carrying handle to remove the bin, then press it again to open the base and release the debris. To clean the bin, never immerse the whole cyclone or pour water into the cyclones. Do not use detergents, polishes or air fresheners, and do not put the bin in a dishwasher. Make sure it is completely dry before refitting it.

Some carpets can create small, harmless static charges inside the bin. These have nothing to do with the mains supply. To avoid them, do not put your hand or any object into the bin unless you have first emptied it and rinsed it with cold water. When washing the filters, tap the ball filter firmly to remove motor emissions. It is normal for this filter to turn grey. Keep both filters away from detergents, dishwashers, washing machines, tumble dryers, ovens, microwaves and open flames.

If an airway becomes blocked, the machine may overheat and shut off. Unplug it, let it cool, stand it upright and then remove the hose or airway inspection parts. Watch out for sharp objects. Clearing blockages is not covered by the limited warranty. If the brushbar jams, unplug the machine, remove the brushbar and clear the debris. Guarantee registration is available online, by phone seven days a week, or by freepost form. Dyson aims to send an engineer within three working days.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

Can't find the answer you need? Here are some frequently asked questions about the Dyson DC24 Vacuum Cleaner, and we answer them below.

How much does the Dyson DC24 weigh?
The Dyson DC24 has a net weight of 5.2 kg.

What are the electrical ratings of the Dyson DC24?
It runs on 230-240 V, 50 Hz with a maximum power of 650 W. Make sure your electricity supply matches the rating plate.

How often should I wash the filters?
Wash both filters in cold water at least once a month. You may need to wash them more often if you vacuum fine dust. Do not use detergents.

How long do the filters take to dry?
Leave the filters to dry completely for 24 hours before refitting them.

Why has the filter in the ball turned grey?
This is normal. The ball filter collects motor emissions. Rinse it and tap it out firmly until the water runs clear, which usually takes up to 10 cycles.

How do I switch off the brushbar for hard floors?
Recline the machine, turn it on, then press the brushbar ON/OFF button. The brushbar will stop spinning.

Why did the brushbar stop spinning?
The brushbar stops automatically when it is obstructed. Switch off and unplug the machine, remove the brushbar and clear any debris.

What should I do if the vacuum cuts out during use?
The machine has a thermal cut-out that trips if it overheats, often because of a blockage. Switch it off, unplug it, let it cool, then check the filters and airways for blockages before restarting.

When should I empty the clear bin?
Empty it as soon as the dirt reaches the MAX mark. Always switch the machine off first.

Can I wash the clear bin in a dishwasher?
No. Do not put the bin in a dishwasher, do not immerse the cyclone in water, and do not use detergents, polishes or air fresheners. Make sure it is fully dry before refitting it.

Where do I find the serial number?
It is on the rating plate on the main body of the machine, behind the clear bin.

How long is the guarantee on the Dyson DC24?
After registration, parts and labour are covered for 5 years from the date of purchase, subject to the guarantee terms. Clearing blockages is not covered.

Can I use an extension cable with the DC24?
Dyson does not recommend using an extension cable.

Is the static shock from the bin dangerous?
No. Small static charges in the bin are harmless and are not connected to the mains supply. Avoid touching the inside of the bin until you have emptied it and rinsed it with cold water.
