Dyson V6 Vacuum Cleaner Details

The Dyson V6 (SV03) has two diagnostic systems: one on the main body and one on the battery. On the main body, a solid blue light means Max mode is on, flashing blue means the battery is low, and fast flashing blue means there is no power because of a temporary fault, such as a dirty filter or a blockage. On the battery, flashing amber means a temporary fault, often because it is too hot or too cold. Flashing red means a fault that needs the Dyson Helpline.

The battery lights also show the charging status. Solid blue means the battery is charging. Flashing blue means it is not charging, and you should refit the charger or try another socket. Solid amber means charging has stopped for a temporary reason, usually temperature. To make the battery last longer, the manual says not to recharge it straight after a full discharge. Let it cool for a few minutes first. Also avoid running the appliance with the battery flat against a surface, so it stays cooler.

To empty the bin, first disconnect the appliance from the charger and remove the wand and floor tool. Press the red button once to open the bin base. Press it again to release the clear bin from the main body. To limit contact with dust and allergens, put the bin inside a plastic bag before emptying it. Clean the bin with a damp cloth only. Never use detergents, polishes or a dishwasher. Clean the cyclone shroud with the brush on the combination tool.

To wash the filter, lift it out of the top of the appliance. Run cold water over the outside until the water runs clear. Then squeeze and twist it with both hands to remove the excess water. Lay it on its side to dry for at least 24 hours. Never put it in a washing machine, tumble dryer, oven or microwave. You may need to wash it more often if you vacuum fine dust or mostly use Powerful suction mode.

If the cleaner becomes blocked, the automatic cut-out makes the motor pulse on and off before it shuts down. Let the appliance cool, disconnect it and check for sharp objects. To reach blockages in the floor tool, use a coin to undo the padlock-marked screw on the base plate. You can remove the brush bar the same way. The carbon fibre brushes may irritate the skin, so wash your hands after touching them. The guarantee does not cover clearing blockages.

On floors, check the flooring manufacturer's cleaning advice first, because a rotating brush bar can make some carpets fuzz. Before cleaning polished wood or lino, check that nothing is stuck under the floor tool that could leave marks. Do not leave the cleaner head in one place on delicate floors. Do not press down too hard on it. Some carpets can build up small, harmless static charges in the bin or wand.

The battery is a sealed unit. If it ever leaks, do not touch the liquid. If it gets on your skin, wash with soap and water. If it gets in your eyes, rinse them for at least 15 minutes and get medical help. Before you dispose of the appliance, remove the battery and recycle it under local rules. The 2-year guarantee does not cover reduced battery run time caused by age or use. It also does not cover normal wear, such as the brush bar, or using the cleaner on rubble, ash or plaster.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

Can't find the answer you need? Here are some frequently asked questions about the Dyson V6 Vacuum Cleaner, and we answer them below.

How long does the Dyson V6 battery last?
According to the manual, the Dyson V6 runs for up to 20 minutes in Powerful suction mode. It runs for 17 minutes in the other configuration shown in the manual, and for about 6 minutes in Max mode.

How do I turn Max mode on and off?
Hold the trigger down and press the Max button, which lights up. To switch it off, hold the trigger and press the button again. The appliance remembers the last mode you used.

How often should I wash the filter?
Wash the filter in cold water at least once a month. Let it dry completely for at least 24 hours before you put it back.

Why is the light on the main body flashing quickly?
Fast flashing blue means there is no power because of a temporary fault. Check whether the filter needs washing and look for blockages in the bin, wand or floor tool.

What does flashing amber on the battery mean?
It means there is no power because of a temporary fault, usually because the battery is too hot or too cold. Move the appliance to room temperature and try again.

Why won't my Dyson V6 work in a cold garage?
The appliance switches off if the battery is below 3°C (37.4°F). This protects the motor and battery. Store it indoors and let it reach room temperature before you use it.

Why does the motor pulse and then stop?
This is the automatic cut-out, which works when part of the cleaner is blocked. Let it cool, disconnect it from the charger, clear the blockage and refit all parts securely.

How do I remove the brush bar?
Use a coin to unlock the fastener marked with a padlock on the floor tool. Clear any obstruction, then put the brush bar back and tighten the fastener firmly.

Can I put the clear bin in the dishwasher?
No. Clean the clear bin only with a damp cloth. Do not use detergents, polishes or air fresheners, and make sure it is completely dry before you refit it.

Where can I find the serial number?
The serial number is on the rating plate on the main body of the appliance, behind the clear bin.

How do I register the 2 year guarantee?
Register online at www.dyson.co.uk/register (UK) or www.dyson.ie/register (ROI), call 0800 298 0298 (UK) or 01 475 7109 (ROI), or post the guarantee form included in the box.

Can I use the Dyson V6 in my car?
Yes. The manual approves it for domestic indoor and car use. Do not use it while the car is moving or while you are driving.
