Dyson DC33 Vacuum Cleaner Details
The Dyson DC33 arrives partly disassembled, and setup takes four quick steps. With the machine standing upright, you slide the hose into the guides at the back until it clicks. Next, you push the wand straight down into the hose and click the wand handle into the top of the machine. You then press the red button, slide the tube down and close the wand cap. Finally, you attach the tools and wind the cable around its hooks.
To start cleaning, plug the machine in, hold the cleaner head down with your foot and pull the handle back to recline it. Make sure the machine is upright before you change between hard floors and carpets. Dyson points out that some carpets fuzz under a rotating brush bar. If yours does, use hard floors mode and check with the flooring manufacturer. After using the vacuum in a garage, wipe the soleplate and wheels with a dry cloth so trapped grit doesn't scratch delicate floors.
To use the wand, open the wand cap and pull the red tube out of the handle until it clicks. Press the button to free the wand and hose. Tools fit on either the hose or the wand, which helps when cleaning stairs and ceilings. Strong suction can make the hose pull back, so hold it firmly. Never put the machine on chairs or tables, and never work with it above you on the stairs. Keep the wand cap closed when you're not using it.
Empty the clear bin when the dirt reaches the MAX mark, and don't let it go above. Allergy sufferers should empty it inside a sealed plastic bag. To clean the bin, press the red release button and then the small silver button behind it to separate the cyclone. Rinse the bin with cold water only. Don't use detergents, polishes or air fresheners, and never put it in a dishwasher. Let it dry completely before you refit it, and clean the shroud with a cloth or a dry brush.
Washing the filters is the most important maintenance job. Switch off and unplug the machine, then rinse both filters under a cold tap. Turn them over and tap them firmly to remove motor emissions. The filters must not go in a washing machine, dryer, oven or microwave, or near a naked flame. If you often pick up fine dust such as plaster or flour, wash them more often. Dyson advises vacuuming fine dust only in very small amounts.
Some carpets build up harmless static charges in the clear bin. These have nothing to do with the mains supply. If the brush bar stops spinning, check that the machine is reclined and the clutch is on, then look for tangled hair or large debris in the cleaner head. If it still doesn't turn, contact Dyson. Before checking for blockages, unplug the machine and watch out for sharp objects. Clearing blockages isn't covered by the guarantee.
