Honeywell HE360 Humidifier Details

The Honeywell HE360 Humidifier is a whole-house unit that mounts on the supply plenum and adds moisture to the warm air from the furnace. Water is spread evenly over a pad. Warm, dry air passes through the pad, picks up the evaporated water and carries it through the home. Because humidified air feels warmer, you can often lower your thermostat heating setpoint and save on fuel. The manual also notes that it helps relieve dry skin, scratchy throats and irritated nasal passages, cuts down on static shocks and protects wood furniture.

Installation starts with a level line drawn on the plenum, since a level unit gives the best performance. The installer tapes the supplied template in place, cuts a rectangular opening and removes the cover and pad assembly. Securing clips and plastic tabs sit on the upper sheet metal edge of the opening, and sheet metal screws hold the housing in place. Do not mount the unit on the furnace body or anywhere that could damage the air conditioner A-coil. Leave enough clearance in front of and above the unit to remove the cover easily.

For plumbing, install a code-compliant shut-off valve. Never tap a line connected to an air conditioner or a gas line. Use plastic (Delrin) compression rings with plastic tubing and copper rings only with copper tubing. Discard the copper ring supplied with the valve when using plastic tubing. Tighten the compression nut only moderately to prevent leaks. Route the drain line on a continuous downward slope to a floor drain. If no floor drain is available, Resideo recommends a drum or disk humidifier instead.

The pressure switch mounts vertically with its pressure connectors facing down. Supply duct tubing goes to the + port and return duct tubing goes to the – port. You can use either port alone or both together. The H6062 humidistat can mount on the return duct, where wiring is easiest, or on a living space wall like a thermostat. Wiring follows the diagram in the humidifier manual, not the one packed with the humidistat. The red and white conductors can be swapped, and the NC terminal on the pressure switch is not used.

The separate HE360 Installation Kit uses an S688A sail switch and an H8908 humidity control. The sail switch has counterbalancing springs. Keep the "Down" spring for downward airflow and the "Up" spring for upward airflow, and remove both for horizontal ducts. The sail switch should go in the cold air return, because supply duct heat shortens the sail's life. The kit's self-piercing saddle valve should be installed with its handle pointing toward the ceiling so debris does not clog the solenoid's inline filter.

For daily use, an outdoor sensor lets the H6062 adjust humidity automatically and limit window condensation. Without the sensor, use the manual's chart: setting 15 at -20°F, rising to 40 above 20°F. Cooking, showering and drying clothes can push humidity too high. If these activities continue for several hours, turn the control to its lowest setting. Maintenance means cleaning mineral deposits from the tray, nozzle and drain hose, and replacing the pad with its marked end facing up. Never oil any part of the humidifier.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

Can't find the answer you need? Here are some frequently asked questions about the Honeywell HE360 Humidifier, and we answer them below.

Can I use hard water or hot water with the Honeywell HE360?
Yes. The HE360 works with hard or soft water and with hot or cold water. Hard water leaves mineral deposits that are harder to clean, so you may need to service the unit more often.

Where should the HE360 humidifier be mounted?
Mount it on the supply (warm air) plenum, at least 3 in. (78 mm) above the furnace body, in a conditioned space where it cannot freeze. Do not mount it on the furnace body.

How much water does the HE360 use?
While running, the humidifier uses about 3.5 gal/hr (13 liters/hr). This water flushes the pad and supplies moisture for evaporation. The excess flows out through the drain line.

Does the HE360 need a floor drain?
Yes. It is a flow-through unit, so it needs a 1/2 in. ID drain line sloping continuously down to a floor drain. If no drain is available, Resideo recommends a drum or disk humidifier instead.

Why is my humidifier not running even though the humidistat is turned up?
The furnace blower must be running for the humidifier to work. Also check the control wiring, outlet power, shut-off valve and plumbing for kinks. With the furnace fan on, turn the humidistat up and down and listen for the solenoid to click.

What does Humidity Boost mean on the H6062 display?
When you turn the humidistat all the way up and "Humidity Boost" appears, the H6062 is calling for humidity. If it does not appear, the installer may not have enabled boost, or very cold outdoor temperatures may be limiting humidity.

What humidistat setting should I use without an outdoor sensor?
Use the outdoor temperature chart: 15 at -20°F, 20 at -10°F, 25 at 0°F, 30 at +10°F, 35 at +20°F and 40 above 20°F. This limits condensation and ice on the windows.

How often should I clean the humidifier?
Clean it every 1 to 3 months, depending on water quality. Remove mineral deposits from the tray and frame, flush the drain hose, check that the frame drain hole is clear and install a new pad with the marked end facing up.

What should I do about condensation on my windows?
Turn the humidity control down far enough to stop the condensation caused by bathing, cooking or mopping. If moisture builds up on the walls, turn off the control and the water until it has fully evaporated. If the problem continues, ventilate your home.

Why is my home's humidity still low?
Check that the furnace blower is running and that the circuit breaker and fuses are working. Drafts also add load, so keep doors and windows closed, close the fireplace damper, limit exhaust fan use and seal around doors and windows.

How do I fix water leaks at the connections?
Shut off the water and tighten the connections. Make sure the brass tubing inserts are installed. If you use a saddle valve, check that its rubber pad is in place. Do not overtighten the compression nuts.

What is the difference between the pressure switch and the sail switch?
Both confirm that the furnace fan is running. The owner's manual version includes a pressure switch connected to duct pressure taps. The installation kit uses an S688A sail switch, which needs a return duct at least 12 in. deep and 8 in. wide.

Can I oil the humidifier's moving parts?
No. The manual says to never oil any part of the humidifier.

What warranty covers the HE360?
Resideo provides a limited one-year warranty against defects in materials and workmanship, excluding the battery. It does not cover removal or reinstallation costs. For help, call Resideo Customer Care at 1-800-468-1502.
