Ideal Logic Heat H24 Boiler Details

The Ideal Logic Heat2 H24 is a heat-only boiler. It supplies radiators and heats stored water through a separate cylinder. It has no integral pump, so it relies on a system pump fitted on the flow side. The controls are simple: a temperature knob, a Mode button, a Restart button and a status display with a burner indicator. If the boiler fails to light after five attempts, it locks out with code L 02. Five restarts within 15 minutes triggers L 0C, which clears when the power is switched off and on again.

When an outside sensor is connected, the knob sets a nominal room temperature between 10°C and 30°C instead of the flow temperature, and the flow to the cylinder is factory set to 80°C. When no outside sensor is fitted, installers can enable 2x Switched Live operation. sL1 then carries the combined CH/DHW demand and sL2 carries the DHW demand. The wiring centre accepts OpenTherm controls, Ideal's Halo range and the Link remote monitoring solution, and it can take cables up to 5-core.

Intelligent Load Optimisation reduces short cycling. If the flow temperature reaches the CH target plus 4°C, the burner switches off. When it relights, it drops to minimum rate within 60 seconds and stays there for 10 minutes. Normal operation resumes after those 10 minutes or once the CH demand has been off for more than an hour. After the burner stops, the pump runs on for two minutes. The fan also has an overrun cycle, so the mains supply should not be cut while it is running.

Because there is no built-in pump overrun, systems where the pipes turn horizontally close to the top of the boiler can suffer overheat lockouts. Ideal offers pump overrun kit 221792 for these systems. It keeps water circulating for 4 minutes after shutdown. The user guide also describes a daily self-check in which the pump runs briefly once every 24 hours. Frost protection fires the boiler when its water drops below 5°C and runs until it reaches 19°C, but only if the boiler has a permanent live supply.

The 75 mm siphonic condensate trap lowers the risk of freezing. If the external pipe does freeze, the boiler gurgles and then locks out. Thaw the pipe with warm water, a hot water bottle or a heat pack, but never boiling water. Condensate pipework must be plastic, at least 19 mm ID inside the building and 30 mm ID outside, with a fall of at least 52 mm per metre. Flue options include a telescopic horizontal flue, a vertical flue, a balcony kit, a soffit kit and a compact rear outlet kit (55/80).

For servicing, installer mode opens when Mode and Restart are held together for more than 5 seconds. It shows the last three faults and can force the burner to maximum (SH) or minimum (SL) rate for 10 minutes to allow combustion testing. The CO/CO2 ratio must stay below 0.004 and CO below 350 ppm. Approved inhibitors include Fernox, Sentinel X100, Adey MC1, Scalemaster SM-1 PRO and Calmag CM100. Do not fill the system with artificially softened water. The warranty requires Benchmark commissioning, registration and an annual service.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

Can't find the answer you need? Here are some frequently asked questions about the Ideal Logic Heat H24 Boiler, and we answer them below.

Does the Ideal Logic Heat H24 provide hot water directly?
No. It is a heat-only boiler. Hot water is provided through a separate hot water cylinder, which the boiler heats alongside the radiators.

What is the maximum heat output of the Logic Heat H24?
It delivers up to 24.2 kW at a 70°C mean water temperature and up to 25.6 kW in condensing mode at a 40°C mean water temperature. The minimum output is 4.8 kW.

What do the L 02 and L 0C codes mean?
L 02 is an ignition lockout after five failed attempts to light. Press Restart, and check the condensate pipe and gas supply. L 0C means the boiler has been restarted five times within 15 minutes. Turn the electrical supply off and on to clear it.

What should I do if the condensate pipe freezes?
Find the frozen section and warm it with a hot water bottle, a microwaveable heat pack, a warm damp cloth or warm water from a watering can. Never use boiling water. Once the condensate flows freely, restart the boiler. If it still fails to light, call a Gas Safe Registered engineer.

What system pressure should the Logic Heat H24 run at?
The pressure gauge should read between 1 and 1.5 bar. Pre-pressurised systems are normally set to 1.0 bar when cold, and the pressure must not exceed 2.5 bar when hot. Low pressure causes fault F01.

Does the boiler have frost protection?
Yes. Built-in frost protection runs the boiler when its water falls below 5°C and continues until it reaches 19°C, provided the power stays on. It does not protect the rest of the system, which may need a separate frost thermostat.

Can the Logic Heat H24 run on LPG?
The boiler is supplied for natural gas (G20). According to Ideal's specification sheet, an LPG conversion kit is available for the 24 kW model. The conversion must be carried out by a Gas Safe Registered engineer.

What are the maximum flue lengths?
The maximum effective flue length is 9.0 m for a horizontal flue and 7.5 m for a vertical flue. Each 90° elbow counts as 1.0 m and each 45° elbow as 0.6 m.

How much clearance does the boiler need?
For servicing, allow 165 mm above, 100 mm below, 2.5 mm at each side and 450 mm at the front. Inside a cupboard, the door can be 5 mm from the boiler as long as there is 450 mm of clearance when it is open.

Why does my boiler lock out from overheating after switching off?
The boiler has no integral pump overrun. If the pipes run horizontally close to the top of the boiler, leftover heat can trigger L 01. Ideal's pump overrun kit 221792 keeps water circulating for 4 minutes after shutdown to prevent this.

How often does the Logic Heat H24 need servicing?
At least once a year, by a Gas Safe Registered engineer. Each service should be recorded in the Benchmark Service Record to keep the warranty valid.

Can I use the boiler with an outside weather sensor?
Yes. With an outside sensor connected, the temperature knob sets a nominal room temperature between 10°C and 30°C and the boiler adjusts its flow temperature automatically. A faulty sensor shows code F06.

Who do I contact for help with my Ideal boiler?
Ring the Ideal Consumer Helpline on 01482 498660. For a suspected gas leak, call the National Gas Emergency Service on 0800 111 999 immediately.
