Hunter SRC Plus Details
The Hunter SRC Plus is Hunter's "Simple and Reliable Controller". You program it with a clearly labeled dial instead of a crowded keypad. The dial positions are RUN, RUN (BYPASS SENSOR), SET CURRENT DATE/TIME, SET PROGRAM START TIMES, SET STATION RUN TIMES, SET DAYS TO WATER, MANUAL – SINGLE STATION, MANUAL – ALL STATIONS and SYSTEM OFF. Four buttons raise or lower the flashing value, move to the next field and select program A, B or C. The basic rule is simple: the item that is flashing on the LCD is the item you are setting.
Mount the unit indoors, close to an outlet that is not controlled by a light switch and away from moisture and direct sunlight. Pull the bracket off the back of the housing and fix it slightly below eye level. Use anchors on drywall or masonry. Slide the controller down onto the bracket rails and add a screw through the lower central hole. Strip ¼ inch of insulation from each valve wire. Connect the white common wire to C and each station wire to its numbered terminal. Plug in the transformer only after all wiring is finished.
One start time is enough to run a whole program because stations water one at a time in numerical order. In the manual's example, a 6:00 AM start with stations set to 15, 15 and 20 minutes finishes at 6:50 AM. Stations with no run time are skipped. To remove a start time, scroll to 12:00 AM and press once more to reach OFF. If all four start times are off, that program stops watering but keeps its other settings. Hold a button for one second to scroll quickly.
Each program uses only one type of watering day: specific days of the week or odd/even dates. With odd-day watering, the 31st and February 29 are always off days. If you cancel odd or even watering, the weekdays you chose before become active again. Watering only happens when the dial is on RUN or RUN (BYPASS SENSOR). Turning the dial to SYSTEM OFF for two seconds shuts off any valve that is running. A reference label inside the door gives quick instructions and has space to record where each station is.
Manual single-station watering runs one station once and then returns to the normal schedule without changing it. Manual all-stations watering lets you adjust run times and start from any station. It then runs in order and never goes back to earlier stations. With One Touch Manual Start, you hold the advance button for two seconds to run stations without using the dial. It defaults to program A and starts after a two-second pause.
Hunter Quick Check finds field wiring shorts, such as a faulty solenoid or a bare common wire touching a station wire. Press the four designated buttons together and every LCD segment lights up. Then press the advance button to scan all station terminals for a high-current path. A shorted station shows its number followed by ERR. To reset the controller to factory defaults, hold the designated buttons, press and release RESET, then let go. The display then shows 12:00AM.
For a rain sensor, connect the sensor wires to RS and C, and move the valve common to RS. If you use a pump relay, connect its common to RS as well. For SRR or ICR remotes, install the SmartPort in a ½" female PVC tee about 12" below the controller. Connect red to the left AC terminal, white to the other AC terminal and blue to R. Lengthening the harness can cause ERR messages, so use shielded cable or the SRR-SCWH harness, which has 25 feet of shielded cable.
The non-volatile memory keeps programs indefinitely. Without a battery, the clock stops during a power outage and starts again when power returns. With a 9-volt battery installed, the clock keeps running for several days. If the display reads "No AC", check the power and the transformer. If the display freezes, unplug the unit, remove the battery, wait a few seconds, then restore power and reprogram.
