Hunter Node-200 Details

The Hunter NODE-200 is a compact, battery-powered two-station controller for sites where AC power is not available. It uses the same programming logic as other Hunter controllers, but it has no rotary dial. Instead, a set of push buttons steps through each programming function. Whatever is flashing on the display is the value you can change with the up and down buttons. The arrow buttons move to the next or previous item, and a dedicated button selects program A, B, or C.

Installing the battery is simple. Unscrew the rear body to open the battery compartment, attach the battery or batteries to the connector, and check that there is no water inside. When you screw the housing back together, line up the seal marker on the rear half with the front half so the enclosure seals properly. Because the memory is non-volatile, you can swap batteries without losing any programming. A protective rubber cover keeps dirt off the controller face.

Wiring follows a common-plus-station layout. Connect the black lead from each solenoid to the NODE's single black common wire. Connect each red solenoid lead to the matching red station wire. Station numbers are marked on the face of the unit. Secure every connection with waterproof connectors. To add a rain sensor, cut the yellow wire loop near its midpoint, strip about ½" (13 mm) of insulation, and join each yellow wire to one of the sensor's leads.

The display shuts off after a short period of inactivity to save battery power. Press any button to wake it into idle mode, which shows the time, day, battery status, and the MV icon if the master valve is active. While a program is running, the screen shows the station number, program letter, remaining run time, and a blinking rotor icon. After you set the last station's run time, the Total Run Time Calculator shows the total irrigation time for that program.

Seasonal Adjustment applies to every program at once, and the displayed run times update immediately. For example, a 20-minute run time drops to 10 minutes at 50%. Manual Watering lets you test each station or a whole program. It ignores the rain sensor. While a station is running manually, the up and down buttons change its run time, and the arrow buttons skip to the next or previous station. The Sensor Bypass function shows a crossed-umbrella icon while the sensor is being ignored.

Easy Retrieve memory saves a preferred schedule to permanent storage. Hold the designated buttons for five seconds from idle mode. Dashes moving left to right mean the schedule is being saved, and dashes moving right to left mean it is being retrieved. The display flashes DONE when the process finishes. A full reset, done by holding three keys until 12:00 flashes, erases the current program but keeps the Easy Retrieve backup. The battery indicator has three levels: Full (100–60%), Med (60–25%), and Low (25–0%).

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

Can't find the answer you need? Here are some frequently asked questions about the Hunter Node-200 Irrigation Controller, and we answer them below.

Does the Hunter NODE-200 come with solenoids?
No. The NODE-200 does not include solenoids. It can run up to two DC latching solenoids, such as the Hunter P/N 458200.

Can I use 24 VAC solenoids with the NODE-200?
No. The controller works only with DC latching solenoids rated for 9–11 VDC. 24 VAC solenoids will not work.

How long do the batteries last?
Under normal conditions, one 9-volt alkaline battery lasts about one year. Two batteries last about two years.

Will I lose my programs when I change the battery?
No. The NODE-200 has non-volatile memory, so all program information stays saved when the battery is removed.

How many programs and start times are available?
There are three programs (A, B, and C). Each program can have up to four start times.

Can the NODE-200 control a master valve?
Yes. You can assign Station 1 as a normally closed master valve. When you do, Station 1 is no longer available as an irrigation station, and the MV icon stays on the display.

Which rain sensors are compatible?
The NODE-200 works with wired Hunter Clik-type sensors, including Mini-Clik, Freeze-Clik, and Wired Rain-Clik, plus other interrupt-type sensors that don't need power. It is not compatible with Wireless Rain-Clik or sensors that need 24 VAC.

How far can the solenoids and sensor be from the controller?
Both can be up to 100 ft (30 m) away if you use wire that is at least 18 AWG (1 mm).

How do I pause watering for a set period?
Use the Programmable Off feature to stop all scheduled watering for 1 to 99 days. Normal operation resumes automatically when the period ends.

Why doesn't the display show anything?
The display turns off after a period of inactivity to save power. Press any button for one second to wake it. If it still shows nothing, replace the battery.

Why does my controller water more than once a day?
The program probably has more than one start time. Each program can have up to four start times, so delete any you don't need.

Does a reset erase my Easy Retrieve backup?
No. A reset erases the current program data, but the schedule saved with Easy Retrieve stays in permanent memory.

Is the NODE-200 waterproof?
Yes. The controller is IP68 rated and operates from 0 °F to 140 °F (-17 °C to 60 °C).
