Ideal Logic Max Combi C35 Boiler Details

The Ideal Logic Max Combi C35 is the highest-output model in the Logic Max Combi2 range. It provides central heating and instantaneous domestic hot water from one compact wall-hung unit. It comes fully assembled with a DHW plate heat exchanger, diverter valve, circulating pump, pressure gauge, PRV and expansion vessel. Standard features include an automatic bypass, boiler frost protection and a daily exercise of the pump and diverter valve to stop them seizing. The casing is white painted mild steel with a white polymer front panel. All servicing is done from the front.

The user controls combine a large colour screen, two temperature knobs, a Mode button and hot keys. The Mode button switches the boiler between Off, Summer (hot water only) and Winter (heating and hot water). The status display cycles through up to three messages to show demands, target temperatures and the burner state. A flame symbol lights up whenever the burner is running. If you turn the heating knob down to the leaf symbol, the boiler runs at lower flow temperatures and condenses more efficiently.

By default the hot water preheat is off, which keeps gas use down. When set to On, the boiler fires briefly to keep the plate heat exchanger warm. Preheat starts when the flow temperature is 15ºC below the DHW target. It stops at 5ºC below the target or after 3 minutes, and it runs no more than once every 30 minutes. The Timed option uses Intelligent Preheat, which learns your hot water use over 7 days and preheats only during the periods you normally draw hot water.

The boiler also uses Intelligent Load Optimisation to reduce on-off cycling. When the flow temperature goes 4ºC above the CH target, the burner switches off. When it relights, the boiler modulates down to minimum rate over 60 seconds and stays there for 10 minutes. Normal operation returns after those 10 minutes, or once there has been no heating demand for more than an hour. The boiler also runs a 60-second pump overrun after hot water use and a fan overrun cycle after the burner stops.

Frost protection works in every mode as long as the mains power is on. The boiler fires if its water temperature drops below 5ºC. A siphonic condensate trap lowers the risk of a frozen drain. If the drain does freeze, the display shows Ignition Lockout or Blocked Flue/Condensate. To clear it, apply warm water or heat packs to the frozen section of pipe (never boiling water). A year after installation, the display shows a Service Due reminder with the contact number of the chosen service engineer.

The built-in diagnostics include a Fault Help menu, a fault history and live sensor readings. The fault messages cover low water pressure, overheat, ignition lockout, pump dry run and thermistor faults. The boiler will not run if the system pressure falls below 0.3 bar. Users can top up to 1–1.5 bar with the integrated filling loop, which has a green handle. The appliance is tested and certified to BSEN 15502 and BSEN 60335. It contains no asbestos, mercury or CFCs.

The C35 works with Ideal's Halo controls. The Halo RF and Halo Wi-Fi need no hardwiring because they connect through the Halo Smart Interface fitted in the boiler aperture. Pairing the C35 with a Halo Combi Wi-Fi raises the package ErP rating from A to A+. Halo Wi-Fi adds geolocation, Met Office weather compensation, 2-zone load compensation and remote diagnostics. Halo Lite (wired OpenTherm) and the weather compensation outdoor sensor (part 216119) meet Boiler Plus requirements. The PRT3 RF thermostat is not compatible.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

Can't find the answer you need? Here are some frequently asked questions about Ideal Logic Max Combi C35 Boiler, and we answer them below.

How much hot water can the Ideal Logic Max Combi C35 deliver?
The C35 has a nominal flow of 14.5 l/min at a 35ºC temperature rise, with a maximum DHW output of 35.3 kW. Its specific rate is 16.9 l/min. It needs a minimum mains inlet pressure of 1.3 bar to reach the maximum flow rate.

What is the central heating output of the C35?
Heating output is 7.1 to 24.2 kW at a 70ºC mean water temperature. In condensing operation at a 40ºC mean water temperature it is 7.5 to 25.6 kW. The extra 35 kW capacity is used only for domestic hot water.

What should the boiler pressure be?
With the system cold, the gauge should read between 1 and 1.5 bar. The boiler stops working below 0.3 bar. The maximum working pressure is 2.5 bar, and the PRV opens at 3 bar.

How do I top up the system pressure?
Remove the plug and cap, and connect the filling loop to the DHW inlet. Turn the blue DHW inlet handle to horizontal, then slowly open the green filling loop handle until the gauge reads 1 to 1.5 bar. Close both valves, disconnect the loop, and refit the cap and plug.

What does the Timed preheat option do?
It turns on Intelligent Preheat, which learns your hot water use over 7 days. The boiler then keeps the heat exchanger warm only at the times you normally need hot water, so you get faster hot water without wasting gas.

What should I do if the boiler shows Ignition Lockout?
Check that your other gas appliances work, then press Restart. In cold weather, check whether the condensate pipe is frozen, since a frozen pipe causes a gurgling noise and then a lockout. If the fault comes back, contact a Gas Safe Registered Engineer.

How do I thaw a frozen condensate pipe?
Find the frozen section, which is usually at the most exposed point outside. Apply a hot water bottle, a microwaveable heat pack or a warm damp cloth, or pour warm water over the pipe. Never use boiling water. Once the condensate flows again, restart the boiler.

Does the boiler protect itself against frost?
Yes. If the mains power is left on, the boiler fires whenever its water temperature drops below 5ºC, in any mode. This does not protect the rest of the system, so a system frost thermostat is recommended where pipes are exposed.

What is the maximum flue length for the C35?
The C35 allows up to 6 m of horizontal flue and 7.5 m of vertical flue. Each 90º elbow counts as 1 m and each 45º elbow as 0.6 m of effective length.

Can the C35 run on LPG?
The boiler is supplied for Natural Gas (G20). An LPG conversion kit is available, and a Gas Safe Registered Engineer must fit it following the kit instructions.

Which thermostats are compatible with the C35?
The Ideal Halo RF, Halo Wi-Fi, Halo Lite (wired OpenTherm), the Halo 2-Zone kit and the weather compensation outdoor sensor all work with it, as do standard 230 V room thermostats and timers. The PRT3 RF (part 216131) is not compatible with Logic2 boilers.

How often does the C35 need servicing?
A Gas Safe Registered Engineer should service it at least once a year. After one year the display shows a Service Due message, which you clear by pressing Restart. Regular servicing and completing the Benchmark checklist are conditions of the warranty.

What warranty comes with the C35?
A 10-year parts and labour warranty is available if you register the boiler within 30 days of installation. The Ideal System Filter must be installed correctly and the Benchmark commissioning must be completed.

Why does the pump run when there is no heating demand?
The pump runs briefly once every 24 hours as a self-check, and the diverter valve is exercised daily in the same way. This stops the parts seizing and is normal.

How much space is needed around the boiler?
For servicing, leave 165 mm above, 100 mm below, 2.5 mm at each side and 450 mm at the front. In a cupboard, the door can be 5 mm from the casing as long as 450 mm is available when the door is open.
