Ideal Logic Combi ESP1 35 Boiler Details

The Ideal Logic Combi ESP1 35 is the highest-output model in the Logic Combi ESP1 range. It is designed for homes with high hot water demand, such as properties with several bathrooms. It arrives fully assembled with a DHW plate heat exchanger, diverter valve, circulating pump, pressure gauge, safety valve and CH expansion vessel. An automatic bypass and daily pump and diverter valve exercise are included as standard. The casing is white painted mild steel with a white polymer front panel. The boiler contains no asbestos, mercury or CFCs.

The front control panel has three knobs: DHW temperature (A), central heating temperature (B) and mode (C). The mode knob selects Boiler Off, Summer (hot water only) or Winter (heating and hot water). In winter mode, domestic hot water takes priority whenever a tap is opened. A backlit LCD shows status codes such as 00 for standby and FP for frost protection, along with the current flow temperature. A burner indicator lights while the flame is established. The CH knob also has an economy position that helps the boiler condense and use less gas.

Frost protection works in all modes as long as mains power stays on. It fires the boiler when the water inside falls below 5°C and runs until it reaches 19°C. Separately, the pump runs briefly once every 24 hours as a self-check. The boiler supports weather compensation through an outside sensor, as well as OpenTherm controls, 230 V room thermostats and timers. With weather compensation fitted, the CH knob sets the room temperature instead of the radiator temperature.

The built-in filling loop sits between the DHW inlet valve and the CH return valve, so the user can top up the system. The normal cold pressure is 1 to 1.5 bar, and the boiler will not run below 0.3 bar. A 75 mm siphonic condensate trap lowers the risk of freezing. If the condensate pipe does freeze, the boiler gurgles and locks out with an L2 code. The user guide explains how to thaw the pipe safely with warm water or heat packs. Boiling water must not be used.

Fault diagnosis uses clear codes, for example F1 for low water pressure, F2 for flame loss, F3 for a fan fault, L2 for ignition lockout and LC for five resets within 15 minutes. Installer Mode opens when FUNCTION and RESTART are held together for more than five seconds. It shows the last three faults and gives access to minimum and maximum rate tests, a five-minute venting function, the diverter mid-position setting and pump speed settings. The air/gas ratio valve is set at the factory and must not be adjusted.

The boiler works with a wide range of flues, including telescopic and non-telescopic horizontal kits, vertical roof kits, a loft air inlet and high-level, balcony and soffit kits. High-rise aluminium flues are available for buildings above 18 m. Installation accessories include stand-off kits, a DHW expansion vessel, the Ideal System Filter and a condensate pump kit. The boiler must be serviced at least once a year by a Gas Safe Registered Engineer, and the Benchmark Checklist must be completed for the warranty to be valid.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

Can't find the answer you need? Here are some frequently asked questions about the Ideal Logic Combi ESP1 35 Boiler, and we answer them below.

How much hot water can the Ideal Logic Combi ESP1 35 deliver?
At a 35°C temperature rise, the boiler delivers a nominal 14.5 l/min. Its specific rate is 16.9 l/min and its maximum DHW output is 35.3 kW.

What pressure should the system gauge show?
When the system is cold, the gauge should read between 1 and 1.5 bar. The boiler will not run below 0.3 bar. When hot, the pressure should never go above 2.5 bar.

How do I top up the system pressure?
First remove the cap and plug, then connect the filling loop to the DHW inlet. Turn the blue DHW inlet handle (A) to horizontal, then slowly turn the filling loop handle (B) to horizontal. Wait until the gauge shows 1 to 1.5 bar. Close both valves, disconnect the loop and refit the cap and plug.

What does the L2 fault code mean?
L2 means ignition lockout. Check the condensate pipe for blockages or freezing and confirm that gas is reaching the property. Then press RESTART. If the fault keeps coming back, contact Ideal or a Gas Safe Registered Engineer.

What does the F1 code indicate?
F1 means low water pressure. Re-pressurise the system to 1 to 1.5 bar with the built-in filling loop. If the pressure keeps dropping, there may be a leak and an engineer should inspect the system.

Does the boiler have frost protection?
Yes. As long as mains power is on, frost protection works in all modes. It fires the boiler when the internal water drops below 5°C. It does not protect the rest of the heating system.

Can this boiler be converted to LPG?
Yes. An LPG conversion kit is available for the 30 and 35 kW models. The conversion must be done by a qualified engineer following the kit instructions.

What is the maximum flue length for the 35 kW model?
The maximum horizontal concentric flue length is 6 m and the maximum vertical length is 7.5 m. Subtract 1 m for each 90° bend and 0.6 m for each 45° bend.

Can the boiler be installed in a cupboard or bathroom?
Yes. The boiler does not need cupboard ventilation, and the cupboard must not be used for storage. In a room with a bath or shower, the IP20-rated boiler must be installed outside Zone 2.

Is it compatible with smart or weather compensation controls?
Yes. The boiler supports OpenTherm room controls, an outside weather compensation sensor and standard 230 V room thermostats and timers.

How often does the boiler need servicing?
The boiler must be serviced at least once a year by a Gas Safe Registered Engineer, or by an RGII-registered installer in Ireland. The service must be recorded in the Benchmark Service Record.

What should I do if I smell gas?
Call the National Gas Emergency Service on 0800 111 999 straight away. Put out any naked flames, do not use electrical switches, and open all windows and doors.
