Nextbase 422GW Dash Cam Details

The Nextbase 422GW Dash Cam is designed for user-friendliness, with carefully selected default settings for optimal day-to-day performance. It requires a quality branded Class 10 or U1 type Micro SD card, recording video in convenient 1-minute segments. An automatic deletion feature ensures space is always available for new recordings, with a 16GB card typically storing about 1.5 hours of footage. The integrated GPS automatically adjusts for Daylight Savings Time.

This Dash Cam boasts Automatic Start/Stop Technology, initiating recording as soon as the vehicle ignition is turned on and performing an automatic shutdown when power is removed. For optimal video quality, users are advised to position the camera centrally on the windscreen, ideally behind the rearview mirror, ensuring the view through a clean, wiper-swept area. Reducing visible sky and removing dashboard items can further enhance clarity.

Memory card stability is crucial, and Nextbase recommends formatting the SD card every 2-3 weeks directly within the Dash Cam for best results, ensuring all desired files are backed up first. Users should always switch off the Dash Cam before removing the SD card to prevent data corruption. An essential feature is the Click & Go Pro Powered Mount, which uses a magnetic connection for effortless installation and removal, offered with both adhesive and suction fittings.

Beyond basic recording, the 422GW includes an Intelligent Parking Mode that automatically triggers recording upon motion detection while your vehicle is parked. It also features a G Sensor for File Protection, which senses impacts and automatically "protects" the current recording from being overwritten. This protection captures 10 seconds prior to and 20 seconds after an incident, and can also be activated manually with a dedicated button.

Connectivity is central to the 422GW experience, featuring integration with the MyNextbase Connect™ app for viewing, managing, and sharing videos, including uploads to social media and emergency services contact. Alexa Voice Control allows hands-free operation of the Dash Cam, traffic inquiries, and music playback through your smartphone. The free MyNextbase Cloud™ service offers secure online storage and shareable links for footage, while MyNextbase Player™ is a free PC/Mac software for in-depth analysis, editing, and sharing of recorded journeys.

A standout driver assistance feature is Emergency SOS. When connected to the MyNextbase Connect app via Bluetooth and with an internet connection, this life-saving technology automatically detects severe crashes. If the driver is unresponsive, it sends critical GPS location, medical, and vehicle details to the nearest Ambulance Service, providing invaluable assistance when it's needed most.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

Can't find the answer you need? Here are some frequently asked questions about the Nextbase 422GW Dash Cam, and we answer them below.

How can I ensure my video image is not blurred?
Remove the protective lens cover, clean the lens, and ensure the windshield is clean and clear of dirt. If you have a Polarising Filter, make sure it is set properly.

I'm having trouble inserting the MicroSD card. What should I do?
Align the card with the diagram on the Dash Cam and push it in until you feel slight spring resistance. Then, use your fingernail or the edge of a small coin to push it further until it clicks into place.

I cannot remove the MicroSD card. How do I get it out?
With the card installed, use your fingernail or a small coin to push the card slightly further inwards until you hear and feel a small click. Releasing pressure will cause the card to spring out for removal.

Why can't I play video files from the Dash Cam on my computer?
The video files are in .MP4 format. Your PC may require suitable playback software or the latest video codecs. Try using MyNextbase Player™, available for free download from nextbase.com.

My video playback is jumpy. What could be the issue?
Format the SD card periodically to remove non-contiguous files. Ensure you are using a branded Class 10, U3, or UHS type 1 micro SD card (8-128GB). Your PC's hardware might not be sufficient; try a different PC or copy files directly to your computer for playback instead of using the Dash Cam as a card reader.

I'm only recording a few minutes of video on my MicroSD card. What's wrong?
Check the 'Video Length' setting in the Video Menu and ensure it's set to your desired duration (e.g., 1, 2, or 3 minutes). Also, in the Setup Menu, verify that 'Recording History' is set to 'Maximum', as 'Minimum' limits recordings to 4 unprotected files at any time.

Why does my Dash Cam shut down by itself after a while?
This could happen if the battery is flat, there's no power to the Dash Cam and the 'Auto Power Off' period has been triggered, or 'Parking Mode' is on and no vehicle movement has been detected for 5 minutes.

I can't delete files on my SD card within the Dash Cam. Why?
Check if these files are 'protected'. Protected files cannot be deleted until they are 'un-protected'. You can do this in Playback Mode.

If I crash, will the Emergency SOS notify the Police?
No. The MyNextbase Connect™ app automatically sends your location, medical, and vehicle details to the nearest Ambulance or Emergency Response Service only.

Can I inadvertently trigger the Emergency SOS system?
The Emergency SOS feature includes safeguards to prevent accidental alerts. It monitors phone sensors for movement and provides a 150-second countdown to deactivate the process if assistance is not required.

What happens if my phone battery dies during an incident while Emergency SOS is monitoring?
If your phone's battery dies while the MyNextbase Connect app is monitoring your phone's key sensors, then this data cannot be sent to emergency services.
