Lowrance Hook Reveal 9 SS CCS Details

The Lowrance Hook Reveal 9 SS CCS is designed around a simple keypad interface. Everything is reached from the Home page, which you open with a short press of the Pages key. From there you can go to application pages, the Tools panel and page customization. A short press of the Power key opens the System Controls dialog, which gives quick access to brightness, night mode, data overlays, standby, sonar logging and panel split adjustment.

Standby mode saves power by turning off the sonar and the screen backlight while the system keeps running in the background. Night mode changes the color palette for low-light fishing. Repeated short presses on the Power key cycle through preset backlight levels. Pressing the Pages and Power keys together takes a screen capture. In an emergency, pressing both Zoom keys at once creates a Man Overboard waypoint and immediately shows navigation information back to that position.

Because the unit uses the SplitShot transducer, you can overlay DownScan imagery on the traditional sonar image to identify structure and fish more easily. Advanced sonar controls include ping speed, scroll speed, noise rejection for interference from bilge pumps and engines, surface clarity and Colorline, which helps separate fish close to the bottom from the bottom itself. An amplitude scope shows the strength of echoes, and Fish ID beeps can alert you when a target is detected.

For charting, you can choose the level of C-MAP chart detail, turn on the Genesis Layer contributed by the community and set safety depth shading. With Navionics cards, you get Community edits, SonarChart, dynamic tide and current icons, Easy View magnification, fishing range highlighting and U.S. or International presentation styles. Genesis Live creates depth contours in real time from your own soundings and saves them to the memory card. Its transparency, contour interval and palette can all be adjusted.

Navigation tools let you go to the cursor position, go to a waypoint or follow a route, with a configurable arrival radius and a cross-track error (XTE) alarm. You can create routes on screen, build them from existing waypoints or convert recorded trails into routes. Trails are recorded automatically, and when a trail reaches its maximum length, the oldest points are overwritten. Each trail can have its own color. You can also set an alarm radius for each individual waypoint.

The Info tools show sunrise and sunset, moonrise and moonset, tide station data and trip statistics. A built-in service assistant creates a support report with the software version, serial number and settings information. Software updates are installed from a non-mapping microSD card. Waypoints, routes, trails and the settings database can be exported for backup, either in full or for a selected region. A simulator with retail mode and custom sonar source files lets you practice using the unit away from the water.

Maintenance requirements are minimal. Clean the screen with fresh water and a microfiber cloth, and do not use solvents, high-pressure washers or car washes. When the unit is not in use, fit the protective sun cover, which is sold separately.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

Can't find the answer you need? Here are some frequently asked questions about the Lowrance Hook Reveal 9 SS CCS Fishfinder, and we answer them below.

Does the Hook Reveal 9 SS CCS support SideScan?
No. The SplitShot transducer provides traditional sonar and DownScan only. SideScan and StructureMap require a TripleShot model with a SideScan-capable transducer.

Which DownScan frequencies are available?
DownScan works at 800 kHz, which gives the highest resolution but less range, and 455 kHz, which gives the best range but lower resolution.

How do I create a Man Overboard waypoint?
Press the Zoom In (+) and Zoom Out (-) keys at the same time. The unit creates a MOB waypoint at the vessel's position and shows navigation information back to it.

How do I take a screenshot?
Press the Pages key and the Power key at the same time.

Where can I save sonar recordings?
You can save sonar logs to the unit's internal memory or to a microSD card. The available formats are .slg, .xtf and .sl2.

How many custom pages can I create?
You can have up to 9 pages, and each custom page can hold up to 4 panels.

How accurate is Genesis Live mapping?
Genesis Live is accurate at speeds of up to 20 knots. It needs a memory card to record data, and its data is not adjusted for tidal offset.

How do I update the software?
Download the update from www.lowrance.com to a non-mapping microSD card. Power off the unit, insert the card and power the unit back on. Do not turn the unit off or remove the card until the update has finished and the unit has restarted.

Can I calibrate the water temperature reading?
Yes. You can adjust the temperature calibration from -9.9° to +9.9°. The default is 0°.

Can I use Airmar transducers with an adapter cable?
No. Airmar transducers are not supported through the optional adapter cable.

What does Standby mode do?
Standby mode turns off the sonar and the screen backlight to save power while the system keeps running. A short press of the Power key returns the unit to normal operation.

How should I clean the screen?
Use a light spray of fresh water and a microfiber or soft cotton cloth, without pressing hard. Avoid solvents, ammonia, alcohol, high-pressure washers and car washes.
