Farberware Pressure Cooker 7-in-1 Details

The Farberware WM-CS6004W cooks faster by using pressure and temperature together. It has several layers of protection. The exhaust valve automatically vents if pressure builds up too much. The float valve rises once the cooker is pressurized and keeps the lid locked until it drops again. The seal ring makes the airtight closure, and it expands to release pressure at the sides of the lid if pressure goes past the required level. An electronic overheat protection turns off the heating element, display and indicator lights at once.

Some other parts keep the valves working properly. A removable valve protector sits over the inner exhaust valve so food can't block it. A spillover protection cup on the back of the housing collects condensation and spills. The air vent on the bottom of the unit has to stay clear, so the manual says not to set the cooker on carpets, tablecloths or paper. When you lock the lid, line up the lid position indicator with the mark on the housing and turn it clockwise.

The control panel has MENU, +/-, TIME COOK, DELAY TIMER, KEEP WARM, START and STOP buttons. When you plug the cooker in, the display shows four flashing bars. You can pick a program with MENU or with the +/- buttons. A program starts when you press START or after 10 seconds with no input. The cooking countdown only begins once the cooker reaches working pressure, so how long it takes to get there depends on how much food is in the pot.

Different beeps tell you what the cooker is doing. You hear one beep when you plug it in or press a button, and a long beep when cooking starts. Three beeps, with the third one longer, mean a program has finished. Turning the lid while a program is running sets off continuous beeps, and so do errors. A melody plays when you unplug the unit or move the lid while it is plugged in but idle.

To open the cooker quickly, use the quick release method: turn the exhaust valve handle clockwise to the venting position. This is useful for delicate foods that could overcook. Don't use it with soups or other mostly liquid dishes, because hot liquid can spray out of the valve along with the steam. For those, unplug the cooker and wait for the float valve to drop down by itself. Wear oven mitts and keep your face away from the steam.

Before the first use, run the cooker for at least 10 minutes with at least 2 cups of water and no lid or food to burn off manufacturing residue. The manual says to use nylon, heat-proof plastic or wooden utensils to protect the non-stick surface. Don't use oil when cooking under pressure. If you cook with wine, add the same amount of water. Adding a teaspoon of oil to the water when cooking beans cuts down on foam.

For cleaning, you can take out the float valve by removing its silicone cap and turning the lid upside down. Soak the seal ring, spillover cup, ladle, scoop and measuring cup in hot soapy water. Only clean the exhaust valve and valve protector when you can see residue building up. Wipe the housing and heating element with a damp cloth, and never put the base in water.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

Can't find the answer you need? Here are some frequently asked questions about the Farberware Pressure Cooker 7-in-1 WM-CS6004W, and we answer them below.

What do error codes E1, E2, C1 and E8 mean?
E1 means the bottom sensor has an open circuit. E2 means the bottom sensor has a short circuit. C1 means the overheat protection has turned on. E8 means the pressure protection is not working. With an error, the cooker beeps continuously and the display flashes.

Why won't the float valve rise?
There may not be enough food or water in the removable container, or there is residue on the float valve. Add food or water, or clean the float valve.

Why is steam constantly coming out of the exhaust valve?
Most likely the exhaust valve handle isn't in the sealing position. Turn it to sealing. If steam keeps coming out, the pressure control may be faulty, so contact customer support.

The lid will not open. What should I do?
The cooker is probably still pressurized. Let it cool and release the steam. If the float valve is stuck up, push it down gently with a chopstick or the handle of a thin utensil. Don't use your bare fingers.

Why is steam leaking from the lid?
The lid may not be closed properly, or the seal ring may be missing, damaged, worn out or dirty. Line up the lid position marks, then install, clean or replace the seal ring as needed.

Is it normal for the cooker to smell or smoke on first use?
Yes. Leftover manufacturing residue burns off the first time you use it. Run the cooker with at least 2 cups of water, no lid and no food for at least 10 minutes, until the smell and smoke stop.

Which foods should not be cooked in this pressure cooker?
The manual warns against applesauce, cranberries, pearl barley, oatmeal and other cereals, split peas, macaroni, rhubarb and spaghetti, because they can foam and block the pressure release. Don't use canned products, deep fry, or pressure fry with oil.

Can I use the delay timer with any program?
You can use it with P01 to P08. It isn't available for P09 Brown/Sear or for Keep Warm. Don't use the delay timer for foods that spoil easily, such as raw eggs or raw fish.

Should the lid be used with the Brown/Sear program?
No. Leave the lid off when using P09 Brown/Sear. For P01 to P08, close the lid and set the exhaust valve handle to the sealing position.

Can I reheat food with this cooker?
Yes. Put the food in the removable container, add a little liquid if needed so it doesn't burn, close the lid and select the KEEP WARM program.

What does the warranty cover?
The two-year limited warranty covers defects in material or workmanship, and the remedy is a replacement unit. Parts that wear out, such as seals and gaskets, are not covered. Neither is commercial use or damage from misuse or neglect.
