Honda EU2200i Generator Details
The Honda EU2200i is a portable inverter generator. Its Eco Throttle® system lowers engine speed automatically when loads are reduced or disconnected, then brings the speed back up when appliances are switched on again. Honda recommends keeping it ON for partial loads to save fuel and cut noise. Turn it OFF when you connect several heavy loads at once, when you use tools that cycle on and off quickly, during DC charging, and for the first 2 to 3 minutes of warm-up.
The control panel has three LED indicators. The green output indicator also works as a simple hour meter. At startup it blinks once for every 100 hours of cumulative operation, up to five blinks at 500 hours or more. The red overload indicator comes on above 2.2 kVA or when there is a short circuit. If it stays on, output shuts off after about four seconds while the engine keeps running. If it blinks continuously, the inverter unit has a fault.
The Oil Alert® system stops the engine before the crankcase oil falls below a safe level, and it lights a red indicator. The engine switch has three positions: ON, OFF and FUEL OFF. FUEL OFF closes only the fuel valve, so the engine runs until the carburetor is empty. The fuel filler cap has a vent lever that must be ON for the engine to run and OFF for storage or transport to reduce fuel leakage.
Parallel operation needs a Honda approved cable kit, which is sold separately. The EU2200i can pair with another EU2200i, with an EU2200i Companion, or with EU2000i units whose frame serial numbers are EAAJ-2017305 or later, or EACT-1000001 or later. Both generators should have the Eco Throttle switch set to the same position. Never connect or disconnect the cable while the engines are running. On the Companion, more than 1.8 kVA is available from the 30 A twist lock receptacle only in parallel mode.
The DC receptacle charges 12-volt automotive batteries, but its output is not regulated, so you need to check the battery voltage frequently. The DC circuit protector trips on overloads or wiring faults, but it does not prevent overcharging. The neutral is floating: the stator winding is isolated from the frame and from the ground pin. Any connection to a building's wiring must be made by a qualified electrician using an isolation switch to prevent backfeed.
Maintenance follows a fixed schedule. Check the oil and air filter before every use. Change the oil after the first month or 20 hours, then every 6 months or 100 hours. Clean the air cleaner every 3 months or 50 hours, and clean the spark arrester every 100 hours. Replace the spark plug every year or 200 hours. A dealer should clean the combustion chamber every 300 hours, and the fuel tube should be checked every two years.
For storage, the manual gives steps based on time. Storage under one month needs no preparation. For one to two months, add fuel stabilizer. For two months to a year, also drain the carburetor. For a year or more, drain the fuel tank and carburetor and put oil in the cylinder. Above 5,000 feet (1,500 m), have a dealer modify the carburetor. Even then, power drops about 3.5% for every 1,000 feet. Residential and commercial warranty coverage both run 36 months.
