Indesit IWC71252 Washing Machine Details

The Indesit IWC 71252 uses a knob-based control panel. It has an ON/OFF button, a WASH CYCLE knob, separate TEMPERATURE and SPIN SPEED knobs, function buttons with indicator lights and a START/PAUSE button with its own light. The wash cycle knob does not move while a programme runs. A row of indicator lights shows each phase in turn: Wash, Rinse, Spin, Drain and End of wash cycle. The same lights also count down the remaining time when a delayed start has been set.

The START/PAUSE light shows the machine's state. It pulses when the machine is ready, stays solid green while a cycle runs and flashes orange when the cycle is paused. When you pause a cycle, the light for the current phase stays on, so you can resume from the same point. To cancel a programme, pause the machine and select a new cycle. The DOOR LOCKED light shows when the porthole door is locked by the safety mechanism, which prevents it from being opened by accident.

The machine checks function choices automatically. If a function cannot be used with the selected programme, its light flashes and the function is not activated. If two functions conflict, only the one chosen second is kept. The machine also stops you from setting a temperature or spin speed above the limit for each cycle. The one exception is programme 2, where the temperature can be raised to 90°C. The Extra rinse function improves detergent removal, which is especially helpful for people with sensitive skin.

Two more functions can lower running costs. One adjusts drum rotation, temperature and water use for smaller loads of lightly soiled cotton and synthetics, so the cycle takes less time. The other does not heat the water at all. Instead, it uses stronger wash action and optimised water use to clean in about the same time as a standard cycle. For both, the manual recommends a liquid detergent measured to suit the load. The 20° Zone programmes use a variable-speed drum action so that cold washes perform comparably to 40° washes.

The load balancing system works before every spin. The drum turns slightly faster than its washing speed to spread the laundry evenly and prevent excessive vibration. If the load still cannot be balanced after several attempts, the machine spins more slowly. If the load is badly unbalanced, it redistributes the laundry instead of spinning. Mixing small and large garments in each load helps. For a guide to load weights, a sheet weighs about 400–500 g, a bathrobe 900–1200 g and a towel 150–250 g.

Maintenance is simple. Clean the detergent drawer often by lifting it out and rinsing it under running water. Wipe the outer and rubber parts with lukewarm soapy water, and never use solvents or abrasives. The self-cleaning pump needs no routine care. If coins or buttons fall into its pre-chamber, you can reach it by removing the lower front panel and unscrewing the lid anticlockwise. Check the inlet hose at least once a year, and turn off the water tap after every wash.

Safety guidance covers installation and daily use. The machine must not be installed outdoors, even in a covered area, and the socket must be earthed and easy to reach. Do not use extension cords or multiple sockets. Leave the door ajar between washes to stop odours from forming. If a fault occurs, the function lights and the START/PAUSE light flash together. In that case, switch the machine off and unplug it for about one minute before restarting.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

Can't find the answer you need? Here are some frequently asked questions about the Indesit 7 kg IWC71252 Washing Machine, and we answer them below.

What should I do before the first wash?
Remove the 4 transit screws, the rubber washer and the spacer from the rear, and close the holes with the plastic plugs provided. Then run wash cycle 2 with detergent and no laundry.

Why won't the door open after the cycle ends?
The door stays locked while the DOOR LOCKED indicator light is on. Wait about 3 minutes until the light turns off, then open the door.

What water pressure does the machine need?
The water pressure must be between 0.05 MPa (0.5 bar) and 1 MPa (10 bar). Connect the machine to a cold water tap with a ¾ gas threaded fitting.

At what height should the drain hose be fitted?
Fit the drain hose to a drain between 65 and 100 cm from the floor. Its free end must not sit underwater. If you need an extension, it must have the same diameter as the original hose and be no longer than 150 cm.

How long can I delay the start of a wash?
The Delay Timer can postpone the start by up to 12 hours. Press the button repeatedly to choose the delay. Pressing it a fifth time turns the function off.

Can I wash hand-wash-only wool garments?
Yes. Use programme 10 (Wool) with a special detergent, and do not load more than 1.5 kg.

How many pairs of sports shoes can I wash at once?
Use programme 14 (Sport Shoes) and wash no more than 2 pairs at a time.

Why does the machine keep filling and draining water?
The drain hose may be outside the 65–100 cm height range, its free end may be underwater, or the wall drain may not have a breather pipe. In upper-floor homes, an anti-draining valve can solve the problem.

Why does the machine vibrate a lot during spinning?
The transit screws may not have been removed, the machine may not be level (it must not tilt more than 2°), or it may be squeezed between cabinets or walls.

Why did the machine switch itself off?
The machine goes into automatic standby after about 30 minutes without activity to save energy. Press the ON/OFF button briefly and wait for it to start up again.

What goes in each detergent drawer compartment?
Compartment 1 is for powder prewash detergent. Compartment 2 is for main wash detergent, either powder or liquid. Compartment 3 is for additives such as fabric softener, which must not overflow the grid.
