Indesit DIF04B1 Dishwasher Details
The Indesit DIF04B1 is a fully integrated dishwasher designed to sit behind a kitchen furniture door. Its control panel has only a few controls: an ON-OFF/Reset button, a P button for selecting the wash cycle, and indicator lights that show the active programme. A buzzer confirms commands such as power on and cycle end. To save electricity, the machine switches itself off automatically after long periods of inactivity.
The water softener and rinse aid settings are adjusted from the control panel. To set the water hardness, switch the dishwasher off, hold P for 5 seconds until it beeps, then switch it back on and press P to choose a level. For rinse aid, press P three times while the machine is off. If you see bluish streaks on your dishes, choose a lower rinse aid level. If you see water drops or limescale marks, choose a higher one.
There are two racks. The lower rack holds pans, lids, plates and salad bowls, and its water jets are stronger, so it is best for heavily soiled items. The upper rack is for glasses, cups and other delicate crockery. The side tip-up compartments can be set at three different heights, and slots in them hold wine glasses by the stem. Tilting these compartments further improves drying. The height of the upper rack can also be changed, but only when the rack is empty and never on one side alone.
The modular cutlery basket has top grilles to keep items separated and must be placed at the front of the lower rack. Knives should go in with the points facing down. Do not put wooden items, copper or tin crockery, antique or decorated glassware, or heat-sensitive plastics in the dishwasher. The detergent dispenser opens by itself at the right point in the cycle. When using all-in-one tablets, you should still add refined salt, especially if your water is hard.
You can add crockery during a cycle. Open the door carefully to avoid the steam, add the items, and close the door. The cycle then continues from where it stopped. The same thing happens after a power cut. To change a cycle that has only just started, hold the ON/OFF button, switch the machine on again, and select the new programme. When the cycle ends, the machine beeps and the programme indicator light flashes.
The dishwasher has an anti-flooding system that cuts off the water supply if it detects a fault or a leak. Clean the three-part filter regularly under running water with a non-metallic brush. Never remove the black wash-pump protection. Both sprayer arms can be removed for cleaning. The upper arm is released by turning its locking ring, and the lower arm is released by pressing its side tabs. To prevent odours, leave the door ajar and wipe the door seals with a damp sponge.
The manual includes a troubleshooting table that covers the most common problems, such as the machine not starting, water not draining, excessive noise, white film on dishes, and poor drying. On UK models, the plug wiring uses brown for live, blue for neutral, and green and yellow for earth. You can extend the parts guarantee to five years by registering the appliance with Indesit.
