Duromax XP15000EH Generator Details
The Duromax XP15000EH is a dual-fuel generator, and a fuel select switch on the front panel sets it to GAS or LPG. When it runs on gasoline, the propane supply has to be shut off. When it runs on propane, the gasoline valve has to be closed. Propane goes in through a regulator and decompression valve mounted on the frame below the OHV valve cover. The included hose connects to the tank with an ACME nut. Leftover gasoline in the carburetor can make the engine run unevenly for a few minutes after switching to propane, so wait until it runs smoothly before you connect any loads.
The control panel has a digital volt meter and hour meter, which shows output voltage and logs operating hours for maintenance. A resettable circuit breaker protects the generator from overload, and an Automatic Voltage Regulator works with the carbon brushes to keep AC power stable. The generator also has a ground terminal, a fuel gauge on the tank and a 3-position engine switch (Start, Run and Off). Rubber motor mounts reduce vibration, noise and wear, and a hoist bar lets you lift the unit with a crane onto trucks or loading docks.
An automatic low-oil shutoff protects the engine, but you should still check the oil with the dipstick before every use. The unit ships without oil in the crankcase. Don't run the electric starter for more than 5 seconds at a time. If the engine doesn't start, wait 10 seconds before you try again. In 120/240 V mode, balance the load between both sides of the circuit as evenly as you can, because an uneven load shortens the breaker's trip time. Don't connect 50 Hz or three-phase loads.
The package includes a spark plug wrench, an oil funnel, engine keys and a propane hose. An optional wheel kit with handle pins is also available. The manual includes a wattage reference chart for common appliances and a table of extension cord gauges by amperage and cord length. Above 5,000 feet (1,500 meters), a dealer should modify the carburetor. Even after that modification, the engine loses about 3.5% of its horsepower for every 1,000 feet of altitude.
The maintenance schedule ranges from checks before each use to service at 12 months or 300 hours. Under it, you clean the combustion chamber every 500 hours and check the fuel tube every 24 months. Inspect the carbon brushes every 250 running hours. The air filter is paper, can't be reused and must be replaced rather than cleaned. To change the oil, use a 10 mm hex wrench on the drain plug, which sits below the oil filler and dipstick cap.
How you store the generator depends on how long it will sit. For storage longer than 30 days, do the following: Drain the fuel tank and the carburetor bowl. Remove the spark plug and pour 2 tablespoons of 10W-30 oil into the cylinder. Remove the battery and keep it on a tender indoors. Don't use gasoline that is more than 30 days old, and always leave at least 1.5 inches of space at the top of the tank. Also, never cover the generator while it's still hot.
