Pioneer DEH-S5100BT Receiver Details

The Pioneer DEH-S5100BT is a single-DIN CD receiver made for drivers who want detailed sound tuning and smartphone control in one unit. A setup menu appears the first time the ignition is turned on, so you can pick the display language and set the clock. The front panel detaches to prevent theft, and a supplied screw can lock it in place. If the unit behaves strangely, press the recessed RESET button with a pointed tool longer than 8 mm to reset the microprocessor.

Most features expand when you connect the free Pioneer Smart Sync app. It can start navigation apps, read incoming messages aloud, change the illumination theme and wallpaper, and unlock Super "Todoroki" Sound, a stronger bass boost. Easy Sound Fit sets time alignment from your vehicle type. If you turn on AUTO APP CONN, the app launches automatically whenever your phone connects by USB or Bluetooth. The APP CONTROL setting chooses whether the app link uses a cable or Bluetooth.

Several tools help with sound tuning. POSITION adjusts levels and delays for the driver, the passenger, the front seats or every seat. D.BASS adds deep bass even without a subwoofer, and LOUDNESS keeps music full at low volume. SLA matches volume between sources, and S.RTRV (Sound Retriever) improves compressed files. With SAVE SETTINGS and LOAD SETTINGS, you can store crossover, EQ, time alignment and speaker levels, then restore them later.

For hands-free calls, the receiver supports call history, phone book access, six preset numbers and automatic answering. Private mode sends the call audio back to the handset, and you can switch between an active caller and one on hold. Press and hold the phone button to start voice recognition, which works with Siri and Android assistants. With multiple devices paired, passengers can take turns playing music over Bluetooth, and up to five devices can be registered.

MIXTRAX turns a USB or iPhone music library into a non-stop mix, with playback lengths from 1.0 to 3.0 minutes. On this model, the light show can follow sound level or bass, using six Sound Level patterns, six Low Pass patterns or three random modes. PHONE COLOR flashes the keys during incoming calls. DIM SETTING can link brightness to the vehicle's lights or the clock.

From the head unit, you can control Pandora and Spotify. For Pandora, you can give thumbs up or down, bookmark tracks and create stations. For Spotify, you can save tracks and start a radio from the current song. The INITIAL menu sets the rear and RCA outputs for full-range speakers or subwoofers. It also shows system information, runs firmware updates and performs a full system reset. For installation, Pioneer recommends mounting the unit at less than 60° and connecting the ground wire first.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

Can't find the answer you need? Here are some frequently asked questions about the Pioneer DEH-S5100BT Audio Receiver, and we answer them below.

How many phones can connect to the Pioneer DEH-S5100BT at the same time?
Up to two Bluetooth telephones can be connected at the same time. Avoid connecting ten or more Bluetooth devices, because they may not work properly.

How do I pair my phone with the receiver?
Turn on Bluetooth on your phone and select the unit's name, or press the phone button and choose [ADD DEVICE]. Check that the same 6-digit number appears on both screens, then select [YES].

Can I play FLAC files from a USB drive?
Yes. FLAC files play from USB at up to 96 kHz/24 bit. FLAC and WAV files cannot be played over an MTP connection.

Which USB file systems are supported?
Format the USB device as FAT12, FAT16 or FAT32. The receiver does not support USB hubs, and only the first partition of a partitioned drive can be played.

Can I connect a subwoofer without an external amplifier?
Yes. In INITIAL, set REAR-SP to [SW] and connect the subwoofer to the rear speaker leads. A 2 Ω subwoofer must connect to the violet and violet/black leads.

Why is the Pandora, Spotify or APP source unavailable?
These sources are turned off when [USB MTP] is set to [ON]. Set it to [OFF] in the SYSTEM settings, and make sure APP CONTROL matches your connection type.

How do I get the 31-band equalizer?
The 31-band equalizer requires a Pioneer Smart Sync connection. Without the app, the unit uses its built-in 13-band equalizer.

How do I turn off the demo display?
Press the M.C. dial, go to [SYSTEM], select [DEMO OFF], and then choose [YES].

What does the AMP ERROR message mean?
The speaker wiring may be wrong, or the protective circuit has been triggered. Check the speaker connections, then turn the ignition off and back on. If the message stays, contact an authorized Pioneer service station.

Can I customize the illumination colors?
Yes. The DEH-S5100BT lets you set key and display colors from 12 presets, SCAN mode, or a CUSTOM RGB mix, and adjust brightness from 1 to 10.

Does the unit drain the car battery?
It can. Leaving the unit on Bluetooth standby while the engine is off can drain the battery. In vehicles without an ACC position, connect the red cable to a terminal that detects the ignition key.

Which disc types are not supported?
The unit does not play 8-cm discs, DualDiscs, oddly shaped discs, unfinalized CD-R/RW discs, or damaged discs. Use 12-cm round CDs only.
