DSC Neo HS2016 Security System Details

The DSC Neo HS2016 is the entry-level control panel in the PowerSeries Neo range. A typical installation has the panel inside a metal cabinet holding the electronics, fuses and standby battery, one or more keypads near the entry and exit doors, and sensors such as door contacts, motion detectors and glassbreak detectors. The panel is meant to go somewhere out of the way, such as a utility closet or basement. Only the installer or a service professional should have access to it.

The keypads show status in several ways. The Ready, Armed, Trouble and AC Power lights are on every model. Icon keypads also show clock digits, scrolling zone numbers and indicators for Memory, Bypass, Program, Chime, Stay, Away and Night. LCD keypads display text messages and are navigated with menus and scroll keys. Every keypad has a solid blue LED bar. It turns off briefly when an enrolled proximity tag is read successfully.

The panel includes several features to help reduce false alarms. With Push to Set or Final Door Set, arming starts an infinite exit delay. The delay only ends after the final door is opened and closed or an outside button is pressed. If any zones are still open after that, arming is cancelled. If an entry/exit zone is tripped a second time during the exit delay, the timer restarts, but only once. An alarm cancel window lets users stop an accidental alarm from being sent to the monitoring station.

The installer can enable further verification options. Burglary verification uses cross-zone and sequential detection, so two or more zones must trip within a set time to confirm an alarm. Swinger shutdown disables a zone after a programmable number of trips. Call waiting handling stops call-waiting tones from interfering with alarm reporting, and Fire Alarm Verification confirms fire conditions before an alarm is sent. Fire and CO alarms are silenced by entering a valid access code.

Access control is based on clear permission levels. Supervisor codes can manage other users and user functions. A duress code quietly sends a duress report to the monitoring station. A one-time code allows one disarm per day, which resets at midnight. User labels are built from a pre-programmed word library. After too many invalid code attempts, the panel can lock out keypads, wireless keys, proximity tags and SMS commands for a set time. The Fire, Medical and Panic keys still work during the lockout.

The trouble menu, opened with [*][2], sorts problems into three levels. These cover service required, battery, bus voltage, AC power, device faults, tampers, RF delinquency, module supervision, communications and network faults. Communication checks include the telephone line, cellular, Ethernet and receiver supervision. Users can arm despite a trouble by acknowledging it with option 99. If an optional audio verification module is installed, the monitoring station can open two-way voice communication after an alarm. During a system test, any enrolled PIR cameras send two images each to the station.

For maintenance, clean the panel and keypads only with a damp cloth. Do not use alcohol, solvents, abrasives or aerosol sprays. The panel should be tested weekly. For UL Home Health Care installations, the weekly test must also be run on battery power alone. The manual also explains where to place smoke and carbon monoxide detectors and how to plan a home fire escape route.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

Can't find the answer you need? Here are some frequently asked questions about the DSC Neo HS2016 Security System, and we answer them below.

How many user codes does the DSC Neo HS2016 support?
The HS2016 and HS2016-4 panels support user numbers 01 to 48. User 01 is always the Master code. Codes can be 4, 6 or 8 digits long, and two users cannot have the same code.

How do I arm the system in Away mode?
Close all doors and windows and check that the Ready light is on. Then press and hold the Away key for 2 seconds and enter your access code or present your proximity tag if required. To quick arm, press [*][0]. The keypad beeps during the exit delay and beeps rapidly in the final ten seconds.

How do I disarm the HS2016 system?
Enter a valid access code, present an enrolled proximity tag, or press the disarm button on a 2-way wireless key. You must do this before the entry delay ends, which can be no longer than 45 seconds on CP-01 systems. If the code is wrong, a 2-second error tone sounds. Press [#] and enter the code again.

How do I add or delete a user access code?
Press [][5] and enter the Master or Supervisor code. Select the user number, press [] or [1], and enter the new 4, 6 or 8-digit code. To delete a code, select the user, press [] or [1], then press []. Any proximity tags linked to a deleted code must be enrolled again.

What is a duress code?
A duress code works like a normal user code, but it also sends a silent Duress Report to the monitoring station. Use it if someone forces you to operate the keypad. A duress code cannot open the [][5], [][6] or [*][8] menus.

How do I test my system?
From the Ready state, press [][6], enter the Master code, then press [04] or scroll to System Test and press []. All keypad sounders, bells/sirens and LEDs turn on for 2 seconds. Run this test weekly.

What should I do when the Trouble light is on?
Press [][2] to see the trouble. Press [] to silence the beeps, which repeat every 10 seconds. To fix a clock trouble, set the time and date with [*][6][Master Code][01]. For most other troubles, call for service. To arm anyway, acknowledge all troubles with option 99.

How do I use the emergency keys?
Press and hold the Fire, Medical or Panic key pair for 2 seconds. The keypad beeps to confirm the alarm and sends it to the monitoring station. Ask your installer whether the emergency keys are turned on, because the installer can disable the Fire keys.

Which wireless keys work with the HS2016?
The 2-way wireless keys PG4929/PG8929/PG9929 and PG4939/PG8939/PG9939 are supported. Use the version that matches your system's band: 433 MHz, 868 MHz or 912-919 MHz. Only the 912-919 MHz models are UL/ULC listed.

How long does the communicator delay last?
The panel has a 30-second communicator delay by default. With your installer's help, you can remove it or increase it to 45 seconds. If you set off an alarm by mistake, call the central station right away.

How often should the standby battery be replaced?
Replace the standby battery every 3 to 5 years. Running the system test regularly also helps check the battery's condition. If the power goes out, the system keeps running on battery for several hours.

What happens after too many wrong codes are entered?
If the installer has set it up, the panel locks out all keypads, wireless keys, proximity tags and SMS commands for a set time. Any key pressed during the lockout gives an error tone. The Fire, Medical and Panic keys still work.

How do I clean the panel and keypads?
Wipe them only with a damp cloth. Do not use alcohol, water or other liquids, abrasives, thinners, solvents or aerosol sprays. These can get inside through openings and damage the electronics.
