DSC PC1864 Security System Details

The DSC PC1864 is the largest panel in the PowerSeries family covered by this user manual. It is built for large homes and small commercial sites that need many zones and separate areas. The system has a control panel in a metal cabinet, one or more keypads, and a range of sensors. The cabinet holds the electronics, fuses and standby battery, and it is meant to be mounted out of the way, for example in a utility closet or basement.

The panel has several arming modes. Away arming protects the whole premises. Stay arming arms the doors and windows and automatically bypasses the interior motion sensors. Pressing [][1] switches to Night arming, which arms the interior zones but leaves the designated Night Zones open so occupants can move around. No-Entry arming ([][9]) removes the entry delay, so any entry causes an instant alarm. On CP-01 versions, the Silent Exit Delay mutes the keypad and doubles the exit time.

The panel also has features to prevent false alarms. The Audible Exit Fault warns you when you arm in Away mode but don't leave in time or don't close the entry/exit door properly. When that happens, the keypad gives one continuous beep and the siren sounds. An error tone also sounds if you try to arm with zones open or enter an invalid code. If you arm or disarm with a wireless key, the siren gives one squawk to confirm arming and two to confirm disarming.

The keypads have dedicated Fire, Auxiliary and Panic keys. Holding one for two seconds sends that alarm to the central station. When fire detection is enabled, the panel monitors smoke detectors. It can also monitor wireless carbon monoxide detectors. You can silence an alarm with a valid access code, then call the central station to avoid an unnecessary dispatch. Some detectors, such as smoke and glass break sensors, must be reset with the Reset key or the [*][7][2] command before the alarm clears.

Zone bypassing is flexible. You can bypass individual zones, clear all bypasses with [00], recall the last set of bypassed zones with [99], or save a Bypass Group with [95] and load it with [91]. Bypasses are cleared automatically every time the system is disarmed. 24-hour zones can only be unbypassed manually. The Trouble menu ([*][2]) shows faults by number. If the installer has enabled arming inhibit for troubles, you can press [9] in that menu to acknowledge the troubles and arm anyway. The system logs this override with the user's identity.

Each access code can have its own attributes. These include Supervisor, Duress, Zone Bypassing, ESCORT remote access, Bell Squawk on arming/disarming, and One-Time Use. A duress code works like a normal code, but it also sends a silent duress report to the central station. A Partition Assignment Mask sets which of the eight partitions each code can access. The system rejects any new code that duplicates an existing code or differs from one by just 1.

The master user functions ([*][6]) include setting the time and date, turning auto-arm and auto-disarm on or off per partition, and setting a separate auto-arm time for each day of the week. Before auto-arming, the keypad gives a warning period, and you can cancel or postpone the arming during it. This menu is also where you run the system test, open a DLS service window, start a user call-up to the downloading computer, and run a Walk Test (Europe only).

On LCD keypads (PK5500, RFK5500 and RFK5564), you can view the event buffer, choose a display language, and see a Global Status Screen that shows each partition as Armed, Ready, Not Ready, In Alarm or Not Enabled. Alarm Memory ([][3]) shows which sensors triggered an alarm. You can turn the door chime on or off with the Chime key or with [][4]. The manual recommends a full system test every week and an annual inspection of the smoke detectors by a professional.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

Can't find the answer you need? Here are some frequently asked questions about the DSC PC1864 Security System, and we answer them below.

How many zones and partitions does the DSC PC1864 support?
The PC1864 supports up to 64 zones (01-64) and up to 8 partitions. Each partition can have one Bypass Group.

How many user codes can I program on the PC1864?
You can program user codes 01-95. The Master Code is access code 40. Codes can be 4 or 6 digits long. Use [*][5][Master Code] to program them.

How do I arm the system in Stay or Away mode?
Close all sensors so that the Ready light is on. Then press and hold the Stay or Away key for 2 seconds, or enter your access code. You can also press [*][0] to Quick Arm. Stay mode automatically bypasses the interior motion sensors.

What is Night arming?
When the system is armed in Stay mode, pressing [*][1] arms the interior zones too. Zones programmed as Night Zones stay unarmed so occupants can still move around within those areas.

How can I leave the house without disarming the system?
Use Quick Exit. Hold the Quick Exit key for 2 seconds or press [*][0]. You then have 2 minutes to leave, and the remaining exit time is cancelled once the door closes again.

How do I tell fire, CO and burglary alarms apart?
A fire alarm is a temporal/pulsed siren. A carbon monoxide alarm is 4 quick beeps, a 5-second pause, then 4 beeps again. A burglary alarm is a continuous siren. If more than one occurs, fire takes priority, then CO, then burglary.

What does a duress code do?
A duress code works like a normal user code, but whenever it is used, it also sends a silent Duress Reporting Code to the central station. To make a code a duress code, enable User Code Attribute 2. Duress codes are not valid in the [][5], [][6] or [*][8] sections.

How do I view trouble conditions?
When there is a trouble, the keypad beeps every 10 seconds. Press [#] to silence the beeps, then press [*][2] to view the troubles. They are numbered 1-8 and include Service Required, AC Loss, Telephone Line Fault and Loss of Time and Date.

How do I set the time and date?
Press [*][6][Master Code][1]. Enter the time in 24-hour format (HH:MM), followed by the date (MM:DD:YY). Press [#] to exit.

How many events does the PC1864 store?
The event buffer stores the last 500 events. You need a PK5500, RFK5500 or RFK5564 LCD keypad to view it, through [*][6][Master Code].

How do I test my system?
Press [*][6][Master Code][4]. This sounds the bells and keypad sounders for 2 seconds, lights all keypad indicators, and checks the standby battery. Then activate each detector to check the zones. Call your monitoring station before you start and again when you finish.

How do I allow my installer remote access?
Press [*][6][Master Code][5] to open the DLS service window. It stays open for 6 hours, and during that time the installer can connect as many times as needed.

How often should the standby battery be replaced?
DSC recommends replacing the standby battery every 3-5 years. You can check its condition with the system test.

Which certifications does the PC1864 have?
The PC1864 complies with FCC Part 15 Class B and Part 68. It is also certified to EN50131 Grade 2, Class II, ATS2, and classified under ANSI/SIA CP-01-2000 for false alarm reduction.
