Hoover Power Scrub Elite FH50251 Details

Assembly of the Power Scrub Elite is simple. You insert the upper handle into the base and fix it with the two supplied screws using a screwdriver. Then you angle the Clean Water/Solution Tank above the Dirty Water Recovery Tank and click it into place. Finally, you wrap the power cord around the cord hooks for storage. Hoover asks you to fully assemble the unit before using it, and to use it only with the filters and tanks installed.

Before cleaning, vacuum the area thoroughly and test the fabric for colorfastness. To do this, rub a hidden spot with a damp white cloth, wait ten minutes, and check for color transfer with a white paper towel. Pretreat stains and high-traffic areas with a Hoover spot treatment. Protect wood or metal surfaces with plastic or aluminum foil, and place foil or wax paper under the legs of heavy furniture so wood finishes don't stain the carpet.

The cleaning technique uses alternating wet and dry strokes. Squeeze the trigger and push the unit slowly forward and back to apply solution. Then release the trigger and keep making slow passes until little water shows in the nozzle. For best results, Hoover recommends a final pass with the dial set to Rinse, which removes leftover detergent. Empty the recovery tank when the motor pitch rises and suction drops.

To use the hose, open the Hose Connection Port on the nozzle and insert the hose end with the indicator aligned to the unlock arrows. Rotate it clockwise to lock it, then plug the solution tube into the Hose Solution Port. With the handle upright, the SpinScrub® brushes stop rotating, which protects the carpet. Tools slide onto the hose until they lock, and a thumb latch releases them. Always turn the appliance off before you connect or disconnect the hose.

For stairs, keep the cleaner at the bottom of the staircase and work your way up. Pre-spray each step by holding the tool about one inch above the carpet. Then pull the tool from the riser while pressing the trigger, and follow with dry strokes. Overlap strokes by 1/2 inch to avoid streaking, use no more than 4 wet strokes on any one area, and always finish with dry strokes so the carpet dries faster.

For maintenance, unlock the nozzle latch, lift the nozzle off and rinse it. When you refit it, align its tabs with the notches on the foot. To clean the brush assembly, pull it out and rinse it under running water. When reinstalling, line up the hexagonal post with the hexagonal hole. Before storage, empty both tanks and let all parts air dry. Never add lubricant to the motor bearings.

The troubleshooting guide covers common problems. If the hose won't spray after you refill the tanks, prime the pump by lowering the hose to the floor and holding the trigger for up to one minute. If solution won't dispense, the dial is probably set to Rinse. Low suction usually means a full tank, a misplaced lid, a clogged debris filter or a blocked nozzle. Use only Hoover detergents to protect the machine and keep your warranty valid.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

Can't find the answer you need? Here are some frequently asked questions about the Hoover Power Scrub Elite FH50251 Carpet Cleaner, and we answer them below.

What is the difference between Quick Clean and Deep Clean modes?
Quick Clean is for fast surface cleaning, and carpets dry in less than 1 hour. Deep Clean gives the best overall results for a thorough clean. You choose the mode with the dial on the base.

How hot can the water be when filling the tank?
Use warm water no hotter than 140 °F (60 °C). Do not boil or microwave the water.

Why is my Power Scrub Elite losing suction?
Check whether the Dirty Water Tank is full (the automatic shut-off float rises when it is), whether the tank lid and Quick Spout Pour cap are seated properly, and whether the tank is latched. Also check the debris filter, the nozzle and the attached tool for blockages.

Why won't cleaning solution come out?
The Wash/Rinse dial is probably set to Rinse. Turn it to Wash to dispense solution.

What should I do if the hose won't spray after refilling the tank?
Air may be trapped in the pump. Turn the cleaner on, lower the hose to the floor and hold the trigger for up to 1 minute to prime the pump. If it still won't spray, call 1-800-944-9200.

Why don't the brushes spin when I use the hose?
The SpinScrub® brushes stop rotating while the handle is upright. This is intentional, so the brushes don't damage the carpet while you use the tools.

Can I use this carpet cleaner on hard floors?
No. Using the machine on hard floors may scratch or damage them. After use, place the unit on a towel because it drips and may puddle.

Which upholstery fabrics can I clean?
Only fabrics marked "W" or "S/W". Do not clean fabrics marked "S" (solvent/dry clean only).

How many wet strokes can I use on one area?
No more than 4 wet strokes over any one area. Always finish with dry strokes to avoid over-wetting the carpet and to help it dry faster.

Do I need to lubricate the motor?
No. The motor bearings hold enough lubrication for the life of the motor, and adding lubricant could cause damage.

Can I use non-Hoover cleaning solutions?
No. Hoover asks you to use only Hoover cleaning products. This prevents harm to the machine, reduces the risk of fire and electric shock, and keeps your warranty valid.

What does the warranty cover?
The limited two-year warranty covers original defects in material and workmanship during normal household use, including parts and labor. Commercial use voids the warranty.
