Kyocera DuraXV Extreme Cell Phone Details
The Kyocera DuraXV Extreme is a rugged flip phone designed mainly for field workers and businesses. It has a front Earpiece, soft keys, a Navigation key and a dedicated Voice commands key. On the exterior, an External speaker key and Call list key let you place, answer or end calls with the phone closed. The battery cover is secured with a captive screw that you turn with a coin. The manual stresses pressing firmly all around the cover edges to keep the waterproof seal intact.
The calling features cover a lot of ground. Noise reduction uses an internal microphone to cut background sound for the person on the other end. Answer modes include Any key answer, Open to answer, Close to end and Auto answer through a hands-free device or the speakerphone. You can also use 3-way calling, call waiting, call forwarding, a call rejection list and editable quick-response texts. Assisted dialing makes international calls easier while roaming. Real Time Text (RTT) lets you type during calls without a TTY keyboard.
Business users get Verizon Push To Talk Plus (PTT+), which you can start from the dedicated PTT key. The External speaker key can be set to switch PTT+ channels. Device Control lets administrators restrict Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, outgoing calls and other functions, and policies can be copied to other phones by QR code. FieldForce Manager tracks where field workers are. The Carkit Power On or Off feature turns the phone on and off with the vehicle's engine.
For communication and connectivity, the phone supports SMS and MMS messaging. Email works with POP3, IMAP and Microsoft Exchange ActiveSync accounts. You can share your connection through USB tethering, Bluetooth tethering or Mobile Hotspot, although these require a subscription. VPN profiles give secure access to corporate networks. A built-in web browser has keypad shortcuts for zooming, scrolling and switching tabs. Verizon Cloud backs up your contacts, and Wireless Emergency Alerts deliver public warning broadcasts, including Presidential alerts that cannot be turned off.
The phone has a broad set of accessibility options. Readout reads aloud menus, key names and on-screen items, and you can change the speech rate and pitch. You can choose a larger font or MagniFont, use color inversion, or pick a color correction mode for deuteranomaly, protanomaly or tritanomaly. Other options include captions, mono audio and sound balance. Persistent alerts keep reminding you of pending notifications with tones, vibration or a blinking LED.
Everyday tools include a calculator, calendar, alarms, timers, a stopwatch with split and lap modes, a world clock, a notepad and an FM radio. The FM radio needs a wired earphone to act as its antenna. Eco Mode saves battery power and can switch on automatically based on battery level or a timer. Security features include call restrictions, encryption of the phone and SD card, and a SIM card lock. The music player, sound recorder, file manager and gallery handle media.
