Dewalt 3400 Psi DP3400 Details
The DeWALT DP3400 is a gas-powered pressure washer built on a wheeled frame with a removable handle. The handle slides onto the frame and locks in place with snap buttons. Controls are grouped logically: the engine has a choke control, fuel valve lever, engine switch, throttle control lever and recoil starter grip. The pump and the engine each have their own dipstick/oil plug. A panel assembly holds a color-coded nozzle holder, so each nozzle has a marked place and can't get mixed up on the job.
Pressure is preset at the factory, but there are three ways to lower it. You can move back from the surface, switch to the wider 40° white nozzle, or turn the pump's pressure regulator knob counterclockwise. After you finish, turn the knob clockwise to return it to its original setting. The manual warns that forcing the knob past its built-in stop will damage the pump. The quick-connect wand changes nozzles quickly. However, you must turn off the engine first and check that the snap ring is fully engaged before you pull the trigger.
The chemical injection system works only at low pressure. Push the chemical hose onto the barbed fitting near the pump outlet, put the filtered end into the solution and fit the black nozzle. Detergent will not siphon while a high-pressure nozzle is installed. Use only soaps made for pressure washers, and never use bleach. After every use, pull clean water through the system. The warranty does not cover pumps damaged by leftover chemicals. If the detergent is thick, dilute it until it flows like water.
The pump has a thermal relief valve to protect it while it runs in bypass mode. When you release the trigger, water circulates inside the pump. If the water gets too hot, the valve opens and lets out a burst of water to cool it. Even so, you should not leave the pump in bypass for more than two minutes. Never shut off the water supply while the engine is running. Use only cold water, and keep the inlet filter screen in place with its cone side facing out.
Starting the machine follows a set order. First fuel the engine and check its oil. Run water through the garden hose to clear the air, connect it to the pump inlet and attach the high-pressure hose. Then turn on the water and pull the trigger until a steady stream comes out. If the engine doesn't start after two pulls, squeeze the trigger to release pump pressure. Pull the cord slowly until you feel resistance, then pull it quickly. This helps avoid kickback. When the gun is not in use, engage the trigger lock.
For maintenance, check the oil at the sight glass, where the level should reach the center dot. Drain old oil through a separate drain plug. The frame also has a hole that makes engine oil changes easier. If a nozzle clogs, the pressure will pulsate. Clear it with the supplied cleaning tool, then back-flush it with clean water for 30 seconds. Before storing the unit, run winterizer through the pump by pulling the starter rope slowly. Drain the gun and wand, and coil the hose on the handle cradle.
