Daikin BRC1D52 Remote Controller Details

The Daikin BRC1D52 is the wired remote controller of a VRV-system air conditioner. It can also control a Daikin Total Heat Exchanger HRV (Heat Reclaim Ventilation) unit. In a combined operation system, one controller starts and stops both the indoor air conditioner and the linked HRV unit. You do not need a separate ventilation controller for daily use. The HRV operation manual tells users to read the controller's own manual for full instructions.

Each press of the operation mode selector moves the display to the next mode. The modes available depend on how the system is installed. If the air conditioner and the HRV unit are not connected by a duct, the user can choose Cooling/Ventilation, Fan/Ventilation, or pure VENTILATION mode. In VENTILATION mode, the HRV runs on its own without the air conditioner. To do this, select the zone where you only want ventilation, then choose VENTILATION with the mode selector.

If the VRV indoor unit and the HRV are connected by a direct duct, the BRC1D52 cannot select VENTILATION mode. To run the HRV without cooling or heating, set the air conditioner to FAN VENTILATION mode and choose the low fan speed. This prevents unconditioned air from being forced through the indoor unit at high airflow.

The controller has a ventilation mode button. It switches the HRV between Automatic, Heat Exchange and Bypass ventilation. In Automatic mode, the unit's temperature sensor chooses between Bypass and Heat Exchange. In Heat Exchange mode, air passes through the element for total heat exchange. In Bypass mode, air goes around the element. A separate air flow rate changeover button selects the ventilation volume. It works alongside the air conditioner fan speed button.

The display has a defrost/hotstart icon and a centralized control indication. When a centralized controller manages the system, the centralized control indication appears on the display. While it is shown, ON/OFF and timer operation may be locked at the local controller. Other functions can still be adjusted. The operation lamp shows when the system is running.

The BRC1D52 handles maintenance reminders with an air filter cleaning time icon and an element cleaning time icon. A "FILTER" message tells the user to clean the HRV filter. After cleaning, press the dedicated reset button to clear the icon. Daikin says only a qualified service person should do maintenance, with the operation switch off and the power disconnected.

The inspection button is reserved for service technicians and is not meant for normal use. The controller also has timer buttons, which work the same way as on the dedicated HRV controller. Use the schedule timer button to turn the timer on or off. Use the time adjust button to set the time. Press the programming button to confirm the reservation.

If the system develops a fault, the controller displays a malfunction code. The codes cover several faults. They include thermistor faults (64, 65) and damper problems (6A). They also cover a locked rotor (A6), a fan communication error (C1), and transmission errors (U5, U8, UE). A wrong remote controller installation shows UA, and a repeated central address shows UC. For any of these codes, contact the dealer who sold you the unit. Some faults let the unit keep running, but it should still be inspected soon.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

Can't find the answer you need? Here are some frequently asked questions about the Daikin BRC1D52 Remote Controller, and we answer them below.

Can the Daikin BRC1D52 control an HRV ventilation unit?
Yes. The BRC1D52 is the remote controller for VRV-system air conditioners. It can start and stop both the indoor unit and a linked Daikin HRV unit, such as the VAM350FA5 to VAM2000FA5 series.

How do I run only the HRV unit without the air conditioner?
Select the zone where you only want ventilation. Then press the operation mode selector until VENTILATION appears. The HRV unit will run independently from the air conditioner.

Why can't I select VENTILATION mode on my BRC1D52?
If the HRV unit is connected to the VRV indoor unit by a direct duct, VENTILATION mode is not available. Set the air conditioner to FAN VENTILATION mode and choose the low fan speed instead.

Which operation modes appear when I press the mode selector?
If the air conditioner and HRV are not connected by a duct, you can choose Cooling/Ventilation, Fan/Ventilation and Ventilation. If they are connected by a duct, only Cooling/Ventilation and Fan/Ventilation are available.

What ventilation modes can I select?
The ventilation mode button lets you choose Automatic, Heat Exchange or Bypass. In Automatic mode, the unit's temperature sensor switches between Heat Exchange and Bypass for you.

What should I do when FILTER appears on the display?
Clean the HRV unit's air filter. Daikin recommends cleaning it at least once every two years in general office use, or more often if needed. Only a qualified service person should do this work, after the power has been disconnected. Afterwards, press the filter reset button to clear the icon.

Why can't I turn the system on or off from the BRC1D52?
If the centralized control indication is on the display, a centralized controller is managing the system. While it is shown, ON/OFF and timer operation may be locked on the local remote controller.

What is the inspection button used for?
Only service personnel should use the inspection button. It is not meant for everyday operation.

Is there an alternative to the BRC1D52 for operating the HRV?
Yes. The manual lists the BRC1E52 as another optional VRV controller. There is also the dedicated HRV remote controller BRC301B61, and the centralized controller DCS302C51 can run the HRV independently.

What does malfunction code U5 mean?
U5 means a transmission error between the unit and the remote controller. With a different lamp pattern, it can also mean a printed circuit board error or a remote controller setting error. Contact your dealer for service.

What does code UA indicate?
Code UA means the wrong remote controller has been installed. Ask your installer or dealer to check whether the controller is compatible.

What ambient conditions are required for the connected HRV unit?
The HRV unit's ambient temperature must stay between -15 °C and 50 °C, with relative humidity at 80% or less.
