Hotpoint 6 kg BHWD129 Details

The Hotpoint BHWD129 is an integrated washer-dryer designed to sit in a run of kitchen cabinets behind a wooden furniture panel. The door mounting kit includes two hinges, two hinge supports, a magnet, a magnet plate, a rubber plug, four spacers and four sets of screws. A drilling template lets you hinge the panel on either side, although Hotpoint recommends the left, so it matches the machine's own door.

Before installation, remove the four transit screws and the rubber bush with its spacer from the rear, then seal the holes with the plastic plugs supplied. Keep these parts in case the machine is moved later. If the transit bolts or polystyrene packaging are left in place, the machine will vibrate heavily during spin, which is a common fault on new installations.

The control panel has a WASH CYCLE knob, a TEMPERATURE knob, a DRYING knob, function buttons with indicator lights and a START/PAUSE button. Progress lights show the Wash, Rinse, Spin, Dry and End phases. A DOOR LOCKED light shows when the door can be opened. The machine will not let you set a temperature above the maximum for the chosen cycle, and you can set any cycle to a cold wash.

The cycle range includes Cottons, Synthetics, Fastwash 60', a Baby cycle, Shirts, Wool and Silk. The Ready to Wear programme washes and dries up to 1 kg of lightly soiled laundry in about 60 minutes. Because it is fully automatic, you cannot set a manual drying time or dryness level with it. At the end of the Baby and Silk cycles, the drum turns slowly or the laundry is left to soak, to reduce creasing.

The Eco wash function does not heat the water. Instead, it uses stronger wash action and water optimisation to finish in the same average time as a standard cycle, and Hotpoint recommends liquid detergent with it. Super Wash uses more water at the start and runs longer for heavy soiling. Extra rinse removes more detergent, which helps people with sensitive skin. If a function cannot be used with the selected programme, its indicator light flashes.

Before every spin, the load balancing system turns the drum at a speed slightly above the wash speed to spread the laundry evenly. If the load stays unbalanced, the machine spins at a lower speed or redistributes the load instead of spinning. Mixing large and small items helps. A single heavy item, such as a duvet, may cause longer cycle times.

The detergent drawer has a main wash compartment and a fabric softener compartment. Do not put detergent in the middle compartment. Each drying cycle ends with a cool-down phase so that the fabrics are not damaged. Keep the water tap on during drying. Do not tumble dry foam rubber, waterproof textiles or items cleaned with flammable solvents.

Maintenance is simple. The pump cleans itself, but you can reach a pre-chamber at the bottom to remove coins or buttons that fall into it. Check the inlet hose at least once a year. If there is a power cut, a manual release tab lets you open the porthole door. If the machine smells, run a 90°C service wash with detergent and no laundry.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

Can't find the answer you need? Here are some frequently asked questions about the Hotpoint 6 kg BHWD129 Washer-Dryer, and we answer them below.

What is the maximum load I can wash and dry in one go?
The machine can wash up to 6.5 kg but can only dry up to 5 kg of cottons. For larger loads, wash first, then split the laundry and dry it in batches with a Drying only programme (11, 12 or 13).

Why has my washer-dryer turned itself off?
An automatic standby system switches the machine off after about 30 minutes of inactivity. Press the ON/OFF button for about 3 seconds to wake it up.

Can I wash hand-wash-only woollens?
Yes. Programme 9 has the Woolmark Platinum Care endorsement (M.0508), so wool garments labelled hand wash only can be washed in it. The maximum load is 1.5 kg.

Why does the machine fill and drain at the same time?
The drain hose is probably too low or pushed too far into the standpipe, which causes self-siphoning. The top of the hose must be 65 to 100 cm from the floor, and the hose should go no more than 15 cm into the standpipe.

What should I run before using the machine for the first time?
Run wash cycle 2 with detergent and no laundry.

Why are the clothes hot when drying finishes?
A cool-down period is added at the end of every drying cycle. If the clothes are still too hot, leave the door open so they can cool before you take them out.

How do I open the door after a power cut?
Unplug the machine and make sure the water level is below the door opening. If it is not, drain the water into a bucket through the drain hose. Then pull the release tab outwards until the tie-rod comes free, and pull down while opening the door.

How high can the appliance be raised to fit under a worktop?
The standard feet adjust the height from 815 to 835 mm. With the supplied crossbars and extra feet it can go up to 870 mm, and with strip M fitted it can reach 900 mm.

Which drying options are available?
You can dry by time, from 40 to 180 minutes, or by dryness level: Iron, Hanger or Cupboard dry.

What does it mean if the START/PAUSE and function lights flash together?
This indicates a fault. Switch off and unplug the machine, wait about 1 minute, then switch it back on. If the problem continues, contact the Technical Assistance Centre.

What guarantee does the BHWD129 have?
It comes with a 12-month parts and labour guarantee. You also get a free 5-year parts guarantee if you register the appliance on 08448 24 24 24 (ROI 01 230 0800).
